Could be wrong, but I think Leavitt would be the 5th oldest coach in the FBS. Not sure that's the culture change needed, but he would be a good hire to keep things going, I guess.

He's going on 61 so that would be a bit of a drawback.  Although, you'd never guess that if you follow his Twitter account.  The man has ice cold Pepsi running through his veins.

I don't think any of those make any sense.

I think he would be fun as a head coach. If he gets a brand new staff that's all I care about

He's also kind of a crap head when talking about K-State on 810, so I just don't see a fit there. He's a Mizzou guy through and through.

Gary Barnett is 71 years old.

Helfrich is a fine coach, but jumping from the PNW to Manhattan, KS is quite a leap.

You want Oregon's current head coach to be our offensive coordinator?  Yeah, sign me up.

And I mean, aside from Barnett's age (which is a huge issue), I think any hire will require Snyder's (at least tacit) blessing.  In that respect, Barnett (even independent of his age) would be a non-starter.  I'm fairly certain that Barnett and Snyder hate one another.  I'd be surprised if Barnett ever coached again, but he certainly will never be K-State's head coach.

Only reason would be that Jim has had more recent success in his role than Bielema has.

Leavitt would be a fine hire.  He checks a lot of boxes.  It's not quite as sexy as Venables in my mind, but it'd be a fine hire nonetheless.

i agree and gun to my head i probably prefer venables, but it can't be overstated how much ass leavitt kicked at usf when he started from nothing.

I wouldn't be all that excited about either of them, but Jim doesn't have the record of failure that Bret does.

I agree with this 100%. Especially if Leavitt comes in for 5-10 seasons and we go 8-4 or so regularly he could dispel the myth that only Snyder can win here. Of course we all want K-State to be awesome, but if a coach post Snyder can come in a have decent success (go to bowl games, win a big game maybe once a year, and flirt with or win a pepper every 5th or 10th year) we can more easily get the big sexy hire more easily after that. Plus Leavitt being older but not super old fits well in that he won't jump ship and won't be around too long either.

Though if we get Venables out of the gate then LFG

True.  But McElwain?  There's a guy who's never failed.
