I was prescribed something called rosuvastatin a couple of years ago.  Took it daily for the first year after that but have since gone to only taking it maybe 2 or 3 times a week with pretty much the same results. Like wetwille said you can reduce your cholesterol with some lifestyle changes which I did, including the dreaded step of eating less red meat.

That blows! Also, slowing down on steak makes me sad.  Mrs. Wacky doesn’t care for it like she does chicken, so I’m always eating for two when I grill it. :D

All bros over 40 should probably be on a statin according to my MD. He could have just been telling me that to make me feel better about my needing to be on a statin though :dunno:

Gotta get those HDLs up

Now, this is high for me but it isn't due to hooch. I've been on meds for this, but my number has been decreasing so my next appointment I'm going to ask to be taken off.

Any of y'all now having to go to the doctor every 6 months now?

I haven't been for about 1.5 but covid and whatnot so I'm not in a hurry to schedule. My HDLs are through the roof and my ratio is very good and always has been. but the doc said the statin anyway. so I started taking it. I think "simvistatin" obv spelling not 100% here.

my uncle who I have been in person with like 4 times in my life is an MD and when it came up that my triglycerides where high he said I should quit drinking and I looked at him for about an awkward 4 seconds and then laughed and my family laughed with me (at me?) and that was the end of that.

Haven't had mine done in a bit, but my ratio is always meh, but both levels end up being in the "good" range, just the HDL is in the lower part and the LDL in the higher of that good range, oh well. The doc I was with said exercise helps with the HDL, not sure though it really helped because I was way between two different times I went in and everything was the same more or less. Oh well

can you immediately fall asleep at some point during the day? like put on golf and you time travel for an hour?

I used to be able to, but not anymore. I’ll just be a zombie all day. But once it hits 9:15 I can go from having conversation to snoring on the couch in less than 60 seconds.

Insurance health screening helps me stay on top of this. My cardio is down this year since I broke my foot early summer. Thus, good HDL has slipped a bit as has my bmi. Working on both this winter with a goal to get my body fat from 22% to 18%. Weight is down four pounds since health screening in October. Rest of the numbers are still good. No statins for the old man.

A lot of people told me to do more exercise on Twitter and I didn’t want to get into it, but I either swim a mile or walk 3 miles 5 days a week. So I don’t think that’s it. Probably just age and the hooch. Case closed!
