Check out Pooler and Richmond Hill areas. They're "suburbs" of Savannah and have good schools and relatively affordable real estate.

A couple restaurant recommendations in Savannah- Treylor Park, Alligator Soul, Cotton and Rye, Rocks on the River (shrimp and grits eggs Benedict for breakfast is amazing).

I don't think you're going to avoid heat and humidity in the southeast. I guess maybe in Asheville a little but that's about it.
