Two things have really hurt the Big 12's perception over the last couple years: (1) Texas and OU failing to be elite programs with a shot at the Natty; and (2) Boren acting like an insecure and indecisive teenage girl.  Maybe someone else could do better, but let's not forget what Bowlsby is working with here.

I think expansion to 12 with a North of KSU, KSU, ISU, WVU, BYU, and Cincy was in K-State's best interest.  Sad to see that it didn't happen.

Now, I think it is in K-State's interest for the playoff to expand to 8.

Yeah if you like seasons where you never play a meaningful game.  It's in our best interest then to quit the B12 and just move to the Sunbelt it you just want to play games against nobodies.

Once UT and OK fly the coop and the BIG8 remnants scratch around for a home, you might just find out that schools like KSU, ISU, Baylor, or TT have no more cachet in the sports world than Cincy, Houston, or another half dozen G5 schools.

Playing meaningful games against meaningful opponents is what will cause UT and OK to get out of Dodge when the GOR expires.

no crap, dummy.  but adding those meaningless games does nothing to keep OU/UT around. 

if the conference implodes, the BYUs, Cincinnatis and Houstons of the world will still be there for KSU and the gang.

Don't bet on it.  A Big 12 without UT and OK  and KU bball is no better than what Cincy and Houston have now in their conference.  KSU would be a good fit in the AAC west division along with Tulsa and SMU.

I would bet on it. 

If doomsday occurs and UT, OU, and KU turn their back on the conference in 8 years, all the G5 schools and their fans will line up to participate in this pathetic greedy charade just like they did this time. 

No reason to preemptively dilute the conference when Cincinnati and Colorado State will always be available.

That's an oversimplification. To think we are going to be in the Mountain West takes a batshit crazy type of conspiracy. First of all no one has yet to make a compelling argument that another conference is better for UT. They are the richest, most powerful university in America and they don't even win that much. Why in God's name would they give that up?

I'm splitting this next part out because its the most important thing to remember about this stupid ass Mountain West talking point. I'm actually gong to yell it because I've said it at least half a dozen times and it just keeps getting ignored.

THERE HAS NEVER BEEN A SCHOOL ENTRENCHED IN A POWER CONFERENCE THAT HAS BEEN DEMOTED, NOT ONE. Cincinnati and UCONN don't count, they were in the Big East for a 7 and 8 seasons, respectively. They only got into the Big East after they were raided by the ACC. So to think we are going to the Mountain West means that not only would we be the first school to be demoted but it means the number of schools in a power conference would be reduced. This has never happened in the modern history of college athletics.

Also it's worth noting that this ridiculous talking point is not only unique to K-State but it's something only said by about a few dozen people on this site with strong inferiority complexes. Iowa State, Texas Tech, and Oklahoma State fans don't think they are getting demoted. They all think if the Big 12 dies they will end up in the Big 10, Pac 12, and SEC and they're right. If one conference expands the others will do the same, that's what history dictates. But yeah keep acting like this is inevitable, you have no precedent or even credible evidence of proving that other than "K-State sucks."
