And I've used sling from locations 14 hours apart.  Locking you into an IP doesn't make sense when the service claims to work on mobile devices and your home device (ps on home IP).

you're ok if you don't have people "at home" using it.  can confirm it will only work for ww if one agrees to not use it during the week (he won't have crap for logins to use) as i am in his exact same use case.

vue is way better if you're intending on sharing

PS Vue, because of contract stipulations, has to limit live streaming for certain channels to whatever a user deems to be his/her "home" network.  I canceled before I could test to see if a full vpn would bypass this.

Okay, Sling has a 1 device rule if you are on one package.  My understanding is that if you have sling gold and blue you can have two devices.

Directv Now has 2 devices allowed and does not need to be on home network. Your local channels are based on billing zip code

Depends how good your VPN is and if you know what you are doing.

May do 3 months of Directv now to get the free Apple TV. Then switch to PS Vue depending on how it goes.

I wish there wasn't an IP restriction on the logins for PS Vue. Would really save $ for me and ms. WW over the next 15 months.
This doesn't quite make sense.

ms ww doesn't watch tv during the week, only when i see her on weekends. Would be best if we could just share the service.
Is the issue that you're using two different playstations?

I've only used Sling and I've used all kinds of IPs.  Just trying to see the differences.

I actually don't have any streaming devices(short of an xbox360). That's why i was going to do Directv now for 3 months to get the apple tv and go from there. I'm cheap i realize this.

I just got the latest Fire Stick and it is roughly 16x better than the previous version.

I have an Apple TV and Fire TV. Both are good. Fire TV is the only one that does 4K. I actually prefer the Apple TV though.

Would you please expand on the improvements?

I would recommend spending the money and getting Apple TV, especially if you have an iPhone and/or iPad.

Only downside is no 4K. Otherwise, I agree. The TV app alone is worth it.

much much faster, more intuitive layout, Alexa voice (which is great if you have small kids).

I don't have a 4K TV, so it doesn't matter to me, but that makes sense.

I also really like Air Play from my phone to watch random videos.

only downside to 4k is that you have to be sitting inside of your 80" television to notice any discernible difference

That was kind of my thought for not spending a little more money for a 4K TV. Aren't we reaching a point where the human eye can't even perceive the difference in resolution?

I don't have a 4K tv either, but worth mentioning sense they are pretty common now. You can get a 55" 4k tv for under $500.

There is also the question of what various shows are filmed/broadcasted/streamed at.

you can probably tell the difference between the pictures of two different televisions of the same resolution. but no, science isn't letting you see much beyond what that chart explains

Currently have the fire stick but I'm considering Apple too.  The school district I work at has some older 3rd generation Apple TVs that give us quite a bit of trouble (freezing up, glitchy, etc.).  Have you noticed any of that with the latest generation?
