I left the Republican party last week after 20 years of voting for, working for, and giving to its candidates. I forgot why I was for it. I heard nothing about the rule of law, limited government, or free enterprise. It has become a grotesque alternation between ambiguous bigotry and overt bigotry; I wanted nothing to do with it. I almost forgot why I am a conservative.

Tonight it is all coming rushing back to me. Is there nowhere to go for someone who is pro-immigrant and pro-rule of law? Also, this parade of identity politics is condescending and embarrassing for everyone participating. Why can’t we just treat people like people? It would be nice if the Democrats had some African-Americans, Hispanics, gays, or women speak who did not think that their race/orientation/sex was the only interesting thing about themselves or even the most interesting thing about themselves. Couldn’t they have had a disabled girl who was not so entirely predictably and tediously just another flavor of victim?

I remain politically homeless.

I just heard part of her speech, but she was good.  Not knowing much about her, I am betting that she could make a decent impact somewhere in the political world on her own in the future.

The Arkansas CNNN affiliate is reporting an avid Sanders supporting delegate was battered by a militant Clinton delegate.  Fred Fudkins from Hot Falls was holding a sign that read Bern Hill, Bern was over the Hill. When asked about the sign, he said he likes men on top.  Noted feminist Estelle Junkins kneed Fudkins in the groin, and shouted racist misogynistic pig.  Clinton handlers refused to get him some ice for the swelling.  He was carried to hospital for obsevation.  Estelle has been invited to a private coffee with Ms. Clinton.

* Cory Booker: Sometimes you want to make fetch happen so badly that you ensure it doesn't happen. That's what happened to the New Jersey senator on Monday night. He was clearly aiming to make a moment, to use his speech as a launchpad for his national ambitions. The speech was well written and competently delivered. But, it felt too rehearsed, too plotted — and, without question, way, way too long. The speech could have been half as long and twice as good.

* Al Franken: The Minnesota senator has worked very hard since being elected to the Senate in 2008 to avoid being the funny guy that he portrayed during his time on "Saturday Night Live." On Monday night, Franken let loose — delivering a comedy routine aimed at poking holes in Donald Trump's resume and qualifications. I say comedy because that was clearly Franken's intent — if not what he accomplished. Doing comedy off a teleprompter is not exactly a recipe for success, and Franken is, clearly, very funny. But his routine fell flat. Once he transitioned to a more traditional stump speech, Franken was far better.
