So has the minivan been purchased or has little SD been coached up to not kick the back of the seat?

I'm in Chicago all week but left strict orders for Mrs Dave to coach him

Good, good, hopefully she's going old school on this.

I'd also like to add that I really hope that Mrs. SD is successful in this coaching up endeavor, because I'd hate to (but would have to) start a thread about excuses for why the SD's can't teach the little SD's not to kick the back of the car seat.   I'd be embarrassed (but would do it anyway) if it was a thread that had to be edited like "Excuses as to why mom and dad SD can't teach the little SD's to not kick the back of the car seat 2016, 2017, 2018"

i think dax is so excited because he enjoys being a grandpa and telling the younger generation how they should raise their kids.

Go Acura and don't ever look back.  It's the perfect balance between great reliability and just enough luxury to be comforting but not pretentious.

Used TL or RL, if it's newer, get the TLX.

They seem awful pricey, but which models do you like?

A loaded Honda Accord is THE BEST value/reliability/luxury options combo out there in sedans.  No doubt in my mind.

The Acura TL is just a bit fancier Accord.  I have an RL, which is a little bit more old manish and fancier, that I bought used, but I was shopping for a TL.  Just found a good deal.

They changed the naming convention recently and added an "X" to the end.  There is a lower middle ILX which is a fancy Honda Civic, essentially.  Still a nice car.

one downside to all used Honda/Acura is the $1k ish timing belt they need around 100k miles.  They are all interference motors and the possibility of a ruined engine exists if the belt fails.  This can also be true for some other brands but Toyota/Lexus for example are all chains.

Good point.  I might end up buying another one of those for our Odyssey.  This rascal has 160K+ on it.

Driving a Ford Expedition EL XLT this week for a vacation rental. Little SD couldn't kick these front seats. Plenty of legroom for the youngster. Fits in the budget at $62K with leather and 4x4.

Wanting to buy a large SUV and then eliminating the company that makes the best large SUV (GM) seems pretty dumb

Expeditions are nice too but uglier

The main thin I don't want is a large truck suv. I've said this a ton already but I want a medium sized one with like 6" more back seat room.

Exactly why I posted about the Expedition. Unless you buy a big SUV or a sedan, you aren't going to get the rear leg room.

Yes, this is what I'm realizing.
