There are non-pragmatic people on both sides. It's probably fair to say that conservatives tend to be a bit more thoughtful and critical of our own than the liberal lemming approach. (The half of Dems that aren't supporting a Socialist are supporting a woman who lied about keeping a private server to dodge FOIA requests while jeopardizing the security of high level classified information, and will likely be recommended for indictment by the FBI. Why? Well, she's a woman, and a Clinton, but she's also the only other choice.)
Being critical is not a bad thing during the primaries. I share your concern that some conservative pundits have gone so over the top that they are seriously undermining turnout in the general. But you know what will help encourage turnout - even to vote for Trump? The Dems nominating Hillary Clinton.
