We braved the hottest weekend for Iowa this summer at Hinterland. They oversold tickets but we had a good time. Was like a giant campout but everyone was either drunk or high with your campground being shared with 40k-ish people. The highlights include Noah Kahan, Chappell Roan, Hozier, Orville Peck, Mt. Joy, HippoCampus, Charley Crockett, Flipturn, and Red Clay Strays!

Had a lot of fun but I think I may be getting old guys (weird crosspost)

Nice, yeah, festivals can be pretty tough and aren't my favorite. I'm prob too old as well after the last couple. If they don't have a fancy VIP section where I can have some space and not have to elbow to elbow for 8 hours a day with people, i'm prob passing. The one I went to a couple of years ago in AZ had a sweet VIP deal where both stages on separate ends had VIP entrances that allowed you to be in a section closer to the stage or on giant bleachers on the side. That plus the bathrooms and access to concessions made it well worth the extra cash. Had VIP one day and GA one day and was really glad GA was the first day. It was nice just to chill the second day and not have to worry about start times and waiting for the bathroom the second day.

If we would have bought VIP the only real plus would have been AC bathrooms. No drink deals or food deals. Only one stage at hinterland. There were 8 of us so we set up a bunch of blankets and took turns going up to sit in the shade tree at the top of the hill by the porta potties. This was my second music festival and Ms. GregKSU1027's first big festival that wasn't Warped Tour in KC about 10ish years ago. She doesn't do so well in the heat so she was miserable Saturday. It was crazy hot. I drank 14 of my 2.5 liter camelbaks all weekend. Was craaazy.

Those "VIP" deals are the worst. If you don't have easy access to better seats/VIP areas, it's a total ripoff. Innings Fest in AZ was the crap. Roped off spot in front of the stage, bleachers on the side, beer and water included. It was the best setup i've ever been to. It wasn't cheap, but it was totally worth it after doing GA the first day. I would totally go back there if the line up was good.

Charley Crockett last night.  Third time, each better than the last.

I have no idea who Charley Crocket is, but that setting is amazing. Where was this?

Red Butte Garden.  IMO the best venue in the area.  And amazingly for Utah, it’s BYOB.

I'm glad this was your tact. Listening to the Gen Zers on TV crying about the heat was really lame. Motherfuckers, you're at a music festival in Iowa in August, of course it's going to be hot. The overselling sucks but I don't believe they have ever sold out, of course the lineup has never been anywhere that close to mainstream.

Red Clay Strays in Omaha on Friday night played through shitty equipment/sound issues to a phenomenal set.  These guys are going to get way bigger.  Drummer plays like Animal

If I can stay away from my sick ass kids and not get whatever they have, I'm going to Red Rocks this week for the first time ever. Super excited. Any pro tips? Staying in Golden.

Go in as early as allowed, walk around a bit and get your photoshoots in to document you were there so you don't have to think about anything else besides the music and setting later. Go back out to the parking lot to get your mind right (however you want to partake) for the spiritual journey that is a concert there. When you go back in, be ready to simply take it all in

The sound sucks higher than like row 40 or whatever so I've found it's worth it to tailgate in line for a while to get a decent spot inside

How was it? Going to Green Day next week and they are together pretty much every where else, but they split for the KC stop for some reason.

Really good. I also saw them on the Oh So Shiny and Bright tour in 2018. That time they played like 30 songs, this set was shorter but honestly I'd prefer a tight 2 hour 21 song show at this point. I'm not much of a Green Day fan so I was glad they were apart for this because when they've played with Green Day they are doing like a 14 song set. I'm not really interested in hearing the American Idiot album in full.

Seeing Turnpike Troubadours, Jason Isbell and Charles Wesley Godwin at Azura Amphitheater tonight. Going to a bar near there called twisters at 4pm to pre game before the show.

Report back on Isbell, Greg.  Saw him last month.  Maybe I just don’t know/like his new stuff as well, but it was disappointing.  Didn’t play a lot of what I would have guessed were crowd favorites from earlier albums.

I've seen him live a handful of times and I think he's wonderful. The last time was at the Stiefel (couldn't believe it) and I had too many peds and forgot I had to go upstairs to go the bathroom and when I was coming back down the stairs they looked like spaghetti moving everywhere and I had to sit down for a bit, on the top stair,  and decide if I was content just staying right there forever or braving the journey to find my way back to my wife.
