Will we play in a bowl game?

Yes but lose.

A bowl will force me to curb my anger and not revisit it until 2016 when the supposed "run" is to occur(it won't), and the same ol' rummy coaches will still be on the sideline and Tuck Nation will be licking the sweat from their balls while the players saw wood.

If we continue to try and run the football, we should do alright.  Tech, KU, and ISU suck badly against the run.  Tech and WVU can't sack anyone.  So, there should be limited pressure on Hubener that we've seen with the better teams.

Tech will be difficult.  But I think we can Snyderball them (as has been mentioned).  WVU is a better team, but they seem to really regress on the road, and if we're looking at bowl eligibility on Senior Day, and we've picked up a couple of wins in a row, I think BSFS will be a tough place to play.

I think we can win out, but I think it's better than 50% that we go 3-1.
You forget that we also have to stop the other team from scoring.  The TCU and OSU game show that we can score points, but our defense will always give up more.

This is an awfully pessimistic take after our defense (without our two best players) just held Baylor to half its scoring average.

Lol, man some people just can't accept reality.

I'm talking numbers, Bro.  If you think there is a universe in which our defense is going to completely shut down big pass plays in this era, then you are the one living in fantasy land.

Only team in the conference that has played all top four teams
6th in scoring defense
2nd in rushing defense
8th in passing defense
5th in total defense

Again we've already played the 1,2,4, & 5 scoring offenses, yet to play 6,8, & 10.

Our defense is total trash

i'm with MIR here.  it's not a good defense, but it's not abysmal.

Good post. I appreciate your reasonable perspective on this year's football team. There has been plenty of disappointment, but I don't see a program in disarray by any means.

What does the chingdex say about our ranking in defensive efficiency?  I thought i remembered it being 7th or 8th

Yeah, from a freshman QB Stidham who never started a game at this level.  Not once did our defense get inside his head.

You're right. He probably only would have managed 14 points against any other defense. It's amazing Baylor's offense was even able to function without Heisman lock Seth whatever his name.

Our offense held Baylor to half its scoring average. The defense yielded a touchdown whenever Baylor wanted one.

That is a great way to put it.  I am hopeful our offense can do the same with the next four opponents.

My memory is a little hazy, but this is how I remember the baylor game. The only reason we held them to anything below their "normal" scoring average is because we hold the ball so long on offense. They had multiple scoring drives of under 2 minutes. Our defense sucks and would have given up 50+ if we had a normal offense, not Snyderball.

Yes our offense contributes to defensive efficiency (as it always has under Snyder). I'll leave it to folks like _fan to crunch the numbers, but our defense did actually come up with some stops.

Going into the game Baylor averaged under 3 punts per game. They punted more than that in the first half IIRC.

I know I am likely the most vocal critic of our defense. I think they play soft, sloppy, and undisciplined.

But

The Baylor game can be put into a little bit more perspective:

Baylor's adjusted Off Efficiency is to score about 3.9 pts per "meaningful" offensive drive.  In that game, we ended up holding them to 3.1 pts per drive, so far tied for the lowest of the year for them. (FYI Iowa State also held them to 3.1 pts per drive and Baylor's schedule thus far is hot garbage). So while our ball-control offense certainly helped keep the score closer, the defense didn't perform disastrously bad.

JFC guys, you can't have one without the other, that's not how it works.

Also for the record Baylor had 10 possessions that didn't end with the half ending. They scored on 5 and were stopped on 5. Baylor also punted more than we did 3-2. I'm certain this won't result with anyone saying "wow I was wrong, our defense did much better than I thought."
