Yes our offense contributes to defensive efficiency (as it always has under Snyder). I'll leave it to folks like _fan to crunch the numbers, but our defense did actually come up with some stops.
Going into the game Baylor averaged under 3 punts per game. They punted more than that in the first half IIRC.
I know I am likely the most vocal critic of our defense. I think they play soft, sloppy, and undisciplined.
But
The Baylor game can be put into a little bit more perspective:
Baylor's adjusted Off Efficiency is to score about 3.9 pts per "meaningful" offensive drive. In that game, we ended up holding them to 3.1 pts per drive, so far tied for the lowest of the year for them. (FYI Iowa State also held them to 3.1 pts per drive and Baylor's schedule thus far is hot garbage). So while our ball-control offense certainly helped keep the score closer, the defense didn't perform disastrously bad.
