Did you guys hear there were elections yesterday? And pretty much every liberal politician and ballot measure got clobbered. https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/powerpost/wp/2015/11/04/the-daily-202-from-coast-to-coast-conservatives-score-huge-victories-in-off-year-elections/

Why do liberal politicians and causes perform so badly except for presidential years? Discuss.

go read some political science research regarding ideological shifts after two-term administrations and voter turnout in non-presidential elections, then decide if you think this thread is needed.

Basically, you have to get 17% of registered voters to vote for you and you win an off year election. Mocat can confirm the math.

What's to like about the liberal agenda?

They want to take away your right to bear arms, they want no borders, they want to completely destroy the free market health care system, they are trying to force nuns to pay for abortions, they see America as the cause of all evil in the world, they want to tax one of the most abundant elements on the planet - carbon, they want to replace cheap, efficient energy with expensive and unreliable energy, they want to stop people from throwing away their refuse and pay for the boondoggle of recycling, AND they want to end traditional marriage and take away simple gender recognition throughout society.

What's not to like at election time?

Democrats got drubbed in 2010, too, before Obama's second term. I'm wondering why Dems have such a marvelous turnout machine in presidential years but can't get their voters to the polls in off years. Maybe they just don't care?

Could it be that unlike the 2012 Presidential Election where the toughest line of questioning for the incumbent came from the Comedy Channel. Mid term elections produce closer scrutiny of the candidates?

It's probably more the lack of advertising, media coverage and "get out the vote" campaigns than anything else.

I'd say that maybe the Republican Party puts a bigger emphasis on local elections than the dems, but I really don't know if that is the case.

In SF's case, Mirakami did get arrested for domestic battery during his time as sheriff. So I don't think his defeat was exactly a referendum on SF's sanctuary city status.

Republican turnout is also much lower in off year elections. I live in Kansas, so I'm not really sure if the Republican Party takes a different approach to these elections than the dems.

Republicans, particularly the religious right, have been putting a heavy emphasis on local elections for a long time. They create name recognition and then propel those people up through the community level, to the state and beyond. It's relatively inexpensive.

I don't think there's any question that the libtards have to spend vast resources to get people to vote. Apparently they only have enough to scrounge out a few electoral votes twice every 16 years.

It's actually quite analogous to how each party governs from a fiscal standpoint.

I haven't clicked on any links itt. Unions love off years. Less than 33% of registered voters vote in off years. If you can get your membership to vote on a certain issue or for a certain candidate, it is much easier to reach the 17% of registered voters threshold that you need to win.
