I actually believe Currie would like nothing more than to hire BV this year. He's spent nearly $200M on spiffing up BSFS, and on an accelerated timeline to boot, to attract a high level or prospective high level HC. The last thing he wants to do is an annual "maybe I will maybe I won't" retirement dance with the Legend.
Doing so risks the faculty upgrade advantage we currently have against a good number of schools. Unfortunately, it appears this is a three not a two person negotiation process, making it much more complex and improbable you can find something that works for everyone.
If indeed the status quo is maintained next year, we will likely see another retirement exit that will have been poorly done and sub-optimized.
