There isn't a Snyder 2.0 quarterback that I've been less hopeful about after one game than Ertz. Not Waters, Hubener, Sams, Klein, Coffman, or Gregory. Ertz often looked completely clueless. And sometimes looked like his legs aren't fully functional.

None of those QBs faced a top 10 team in their first start. I don't think you can compare Ertz to anyone else at this point for better or worse. This will actually make me very for our next game to see if Ertz is on par with any of those guys.

My problem with Ertz was that he just stared down 1 guy, usually Pringle, hoping he would become open.  When that didn't happen, he either forced it or scrambled left and waited for the closest guy to break back towards him. How good the opposing defense is has very little to do with his inability to go thru a progression. The coaches came back and gave him a few quick throws to try to get his confidence back, but he still was just looking at 1 receiver.  He never even tried to go thru a progression.
I got a guy on the other line about some white walls

I'll actually agree with this some what, but I think it's just the knee brace.  I think it just slows that leg down a touch, but its enough to make it look strange.  Once I thought he was starting to slow himself down while going lame on that leg.  I noticed it on the next run too, but it was just weird optics.

Also, I rewatched part of the game and have a little more hope.  The more I think about it, I'm guess a large reason was our extremely risk adverse coaches telling him not to even think about making a snap decision that could lead to a pick.  I don't have much faith in Dana/Del, but even with them a QB has to be more developed than to just look at one option because that's the best they can do.

What I anticipate is that we'll see Ertz get better over the next 3-4 games, get injured, and then spend the rest of the season watching Bazooka Joe not learn from last year's mistakes.

I don't know why you guys would want to start the best player available when we can watch Ertz evolve into an 8-5 QB in 3 years. Show some patience.

Ertz threw some really nice passes in the 4th quarter.  He looked a lot more comfortable in the pocket and decisive in this throws.  That dart to Heath over the corner's shoulder as he was turned was a pass I haven't seen one of our QB's accurately throw since Freeman.  The pass to the back of the end zone to Zuber was a thing of beauty.

Stanford probably has the best defense we'll see all year, and most likely the best secondary.  Pringle was having trouble getting separation, but he was getting mauled, and nothing was getting called.  The line struggled in pass pro several times.  On multiple replays, Stanford would go at Frantz with two defenders, and he was a split second late.

Once the line starts to gel more, and we get a few weeks with a bye and lesser competition to get more game reps, I think we'll see a much more efficient and effective offense.  I think we'll look a lot better in Morgantown here in a few weeks.

Stanford probably has the best defense we'll see all year

people keep saying this. they were kind of mediocre last year and lost 5 starters. I don't know how good their recruits are and crap though.

OU, UT and TCU are all setting the bar pretty low and they are the 3 teams recruiting at the highest level and with HCs with a defensive background.
