Perfect city/area to live
« on: June 29, 2015, 11:00:38 PM »
Thinking of moving the family elsewhere. This place is probably the most intelligent and diverse group of bbs studs, so I would love ideas. USA ONLY!

- I want to live somewhere that doesn't get too hot, but doesn't get too cold.
- I would prefer little-to-zero nascar/redneck types
-not a fan of hipster types
- somewhere near a big city, but not in the middle of it
- would prefer a more liberal area
- Employment doesn't matter, I can find a job in my field anywhere and my wife is a teacher

Thanks, friends!

That seems like a large area. What are the differences between like the southern part and the northern part?

Suburban San Diego sounds like a good bet. Not very liberal by California standards, but (if you're coming from Oklahoma) should suit you fine in that regard.
If there was a gif of nicname thwarting the attempted-flag-taker and then gesturing him to suck it, followed by motioning for all of Hilton Shelter to boo him louder, it'd be better than that auburn gif.

San Luis Obispo/Pismo Beach

Suburban San Diego seems kind of sucky outside of the surf villages.

For the cost of living increase a move to California would require, you could travel there or elsewhere several times a year and possibly enjoy it much more that way.

I found this interesting: http://www.paulgraham.com/cities.html

I know a couple of people who moved to New York years ago. To them, "success" and "money" are now basically synonymous.

I am surprised that it is nearly unanimous on San Diego.

You could bold at least one other city in that list.

Also - a vote for suburban Nashville.  Think Brentwood or Franklin.

Scottsdale is where I'm moving.  The hot part is probably a deal breaker but eff the snow.

I enjoyed how he's speculating in 2008 about tech start-ups possibly taking hold in San Francisco.
