On the topic of Skylar Thompson, I'll share this (for what it's worth):
About a week or so ago, I overheard a conversation from someone connected to the program, a source I would consider reliable on the subject matter. The person was discussing the quarterback situation at K-State and how the position has held back the offense to some extent this season. That's when he turned the focus towards Thompson, claiming he was told that the redshirt season has done wonders for the young signal caller. He discussed how much he's improved since arriving on campus in January and, probably the biggest takeaway from the entire discussion, isn't that far behind Jesse Ertz.
(Paraphrasing from memory)-- "I know Jesse isn't 100%, but Skylar is the real deal. If he wasn't redshirting right now, he'd be #2 and not as far behind as you'd think. He's the future."
Now, if experience plays as much of a role next year in determining quarterbacks as it has this season (i.e. Hubener basically playing over Delton because of experience and little else from what we've gathered), then I wouldn't necessarily put a ton of stock in the idea that Thompson beats out Ertz even if the two are equal. However, if Ertz were to struggle or can't stay healthy, it wouldn't necessarily surprise me either to see the staff move quicker to the back-up than we've seen in 2016. We've heard reviews like this in the past about players, namely Ertz (who I still think can be a pretty good QB if he can just get back to 100%), but it truly sounds like it's legit with Thompson. Just my two cents.
