To be fair, it wasn't a chip shot. IIRC, it was 40+ yards so not a gimme. Unlike his ones against Auburn.

It's always easy to blame the kicker because there are few plays in football where the accountability for the success of the play falls more in the direction of one guy as opposed to the whole unit.

Yeah, you have to get a good snap, and a good hold, and you have to prevent some guy from getting his paws up, but on the whole, the number of things that usually go wrong on a kick is pretty minimal compared to your average offensive play.

People forget missed kicks, dropped passes, and bad throws.  It's easy to look at that person and point a finger because it wasn't some chain of events involving multiple team members that lead to those failures, by and large.

That said, I was never comfortable with Cantele, which is odd because he was a 1st Team All-Big 12 kicker.  His problem was never talent, but he got the yips, and those can come on whenever.

Wasn't there one point when he was deep in his own head that he shanked an XP?

I forgave him for the Auburn game when Auburn turned out to not be very good anyway.

Yeah.. and I mean, it's Anthony Cantele, we shouldn't be mad at that dork, especially with the dogshit performance from Waters and Lockett that night.

Winning that auburn game would've been awesome.  We didn't lose our second game that season until November 8th.

I know we weren't worldbeaters that year, but we really were a pretty good team, and (assuming everything played out the same) would have been getting a lot of fun playoff buzz through the last week of the regular season.

Winning the Auburn game would have really maximized the size of the chip on our collective KSU shoulder that year, and that is what KSU football is all about. Would have been great.

People thought Auburn was good and that win would've been huge that early in the season.  Whether Auburn was actually good was irrelevant.

McCrane is like 2x a better kicker than Jack Cantele. Jack would have never played (maybe senior day) if it weren't for that injury Matt McCrane had against UTSA. (?)

Wasn't Miami pretty crappy when K-State beat them? Wasn't that win, "huge that early in the season."

It was pretty huge in 2011 but not in 2012, imo.

That is more of a compliment to how good McCrane is vs. how bad Cantele was perceived to be.

If he can get some more distance on his kicks, McCrane could have a long NFL career.

That's fair. Those Cantele kicks to beat TCU & ISU were awesome tho.

Pretty sure Miami was unranked both years and Auburn was top 5ish.

Beating a name program like Miami is always very fun, but would not have compared to Auburn.

When I look back at this little era of KSU football, Cantele and his missed kicks will probably be a fairly minor footnote.

And his kicks against TCU and ISU will probably counterbalance the failure against Auburn.

To be honest, I'll probably remember him mostly as the guy who broke his arm celebrating the TCU kick.

I remember Lockett's dropped ball in the end zone that got picked off against auburn more than Cantele's missed kick(s)
