Currie's letter needs a long rebuttal.  I am working on one.

they just need to be consistent.  is the player exodus a result of a national epidemic of players not being loyal to schools, or is it the result of players being dismissed from a team that holds itself to a high moral standard?

A friend of mine emailed Currie the other day expressing displeasure with the state of our basketball program and ended the email by suggesting Currie resign. The Animal sent the reply back.

the gpc thread about currie's letter was actually quite negative.

That's quite a pickle for gpc mgmt who claim none of this is oscar's fault and all the players who are leaving were doing drugs.

Turnover in the administration and athletic depts staffing across the country has become an epidemic.  Their departure is essentially inevitable.

Emails are certainly limitedly effective, and with a PR spin campaign like this one, they will always obviously deny how much dissatisfaction exists among their support base.  Wefald did the same thing with Wooldridge at the end, as is The Animal now.  They are feeling some heat, though.

This team will undoubtedly be picked last in the preseason and that is completely unacceptable with the resources, fan support, and millions of dollars that have been spent on the practice facility, and are being committed to Weber's salary.

The real proof will be next season when the fan base talks with their pocketbook and the season ticket sales and donations plummet.  The reality is the only way to send a message that affects change is through the bottom line.

The funny thing is, if in lieu of this cockamamie blame campaign targeting our student athletes to justify and defend Weber's abject leadership failure, our AD and or Pres had issued a simple email directed to the fans/donors thanking them for THEIR valuable loyalty and support through a very disappointing season, that it was unacceptable and not inline with the high standard of excellence that has been set for the Men's Basketball Program, I would personally have halfway considered renewing.

Texas Christian University coach Gary Patterson has been hired as Kansas State's 34th football coach, multiple sources have confirmed to GoPowercat.com.  Patterson replaces Ron Prince, who was fired Wednesday. - Tim Fitzgerald   Nov, 7, 2008

That is the thing for me.  There are very reasonable alternatives to the messages being presented.  Not only is the messaging lacking any class or grace with regards to student-athletes, it clumsily attempts to set a narrative using highly misleading numbers.  It provides insight in to the way in which our Athletic Department chooses to present themselves to their own fanbase, and the world at large.

I find it incredibly distasteful and counter-productive.

The last two posts are much more eloquent than what I would have said.

I simply hate spin.  This is a tactic straight out of cable news, and I'm just disgusted by it.

they just need to be consistent.  is the player exodus a result of a national epidemic of players not being loyal to schools, or is it the result of players being dismissed from a team that holds itself to a high moral standard?

This is what I don't get. Only two have "transferred", the rest where "dismissed". If that's the narrative you want to use, don't send out a letter talking about a transfer epidemic that the team just got caught up in.

It was poorly organized, but they could have and maybe tried to do both in explaining away 2 transfers (probably counting Krap towards last year) by the Epidemic, while separately, the dismissals are due to those players' bad characters.

The good thing is that this dragging out like this has Illuminated how high up the ladder crap is wrong.   Normally, I  don't care about the pres.  He shouldn't be in sports. But it's stupid that he is responding to johns mail.

I disagree with the thought that Weber has not set high standards.  He has kicked off players that have failed to live up to Athletic Department player standards.  I doubt that Weber supports players smoking weed.  If Foster had decided to improve versus self destructing ( and in the process taking along some teammates), I believe last season would have resulted in more wins and we would not be having this conversation.

Weber, for various reasons has had to recruit, probably more  players to K State than any recent previous coach,  Now fans are not complaining about  being unable to recruit players to K State but the quality of the players.

Weber can coach has proven he can coach this last season by the number of wins against top teams by a sub average team based can the final season record.

Two players transferred who failed to improve much over their first season and who many fans thought were not quality D1 guards.  Martin would have just run them off and fans would not have cared that he did that.. These same fans who complained about the quality of these' guard's play are now complaining that Weber has not developed a culture that would encourage them to stay. Did you want these poor playing guards to stay and continue to have poor guard play or recruit new guards who could potentially better?  No one wants to fire Calipari when he has 7 players voluntarily leave the team, but have a couple of guards who are not cutting it  and voluntarily leave K State and it is an issue. According to K State fans thinking, if a player voluntarily leaves to improve his personal situation, then Kentucky fans should be screaming for Calipari's head.

Negative Nancy's please be consistent when you bitch and quit straddling the fence. If you comp;lain about a player not being good enough for D1, then you can't complain when they voluntarily leave (for any reason) before they graduate. You can't complain that the coach does not have high standards when he dismisses players who do not comply with team rules. If the high standard  includes  being the number one team in the B12, then Weber has done that also.  How many times have Martin and Huggins won first place?  Now go ahead and rip my argument apart but I have had my say.

Friend didn't disclose that information. I just can't believe that Currie needed Schultz to respond to an email that was critical of him. Says a lot about Currie IMO.
