The podcast I mentioned discussed desalination too, as did another podcast I listened to last week(Stuff you should know). They were talking about how much brine is left over from the process and how it is pretty harmful to dump back in the ocean without either spreading it out a bunch or going quite a ways off shore. Also, it requires a lot of either pressure or heat. Like a ton. Supposedly there is a latest tech type plant being built named the Posideon right now in CA and CA will base a lot of their forward plans on how efficient and productive it is. Kinda an all-in type bet, supposedly.
