Anyone ever read Dune? I watched the recent movie over the weekend and enjoyed it...did some googling and apparently the book/series is kind of a big deal in 20th century sci-fi.

I picked up the book from my local library today and started reading and have enjoyed it so far.

Yes. The first three books are worth a read. I'd personally stop after those

I made it about 1/6th through the first book tonight and have enjoyed it (basically the same as the movie I watched over the weekend so far) but I'm not ready to spend all winter reading 6 books.  :surprised:

Is anyone reading the second era of Mistborn?  Book 4 is out today.  The time period is a nice change of pace and adds some fun wrinkles compared to the rest of Sanderson’s Cosmere books.

I read the original series and liked it. I think I will check these out…I’m looking for a new series

Has anyone read a good history of the Irish famine of the 1840s that they would recommend?

I was watching a webinar at work today and the speaker mentioned reading a book on imposter syndrome. I thought that would make for a good read. However, they didn't mention what they read and I don't remember which presenter it was so I cannot reach out. Has anyone read anything on imposter syndrome? I did a quick search and I didn't like what I saw. It was mostly bullshit sites and I didn't like the books they highlighted.

Just finished The Price of Tomorrow by Jeff Booth. Was a really good book. He was on an AI podcast recently and was talking about some of the stuff from the book so figured I would give it a read.

THE OLD MAN AND THE SEA, by Ernest Hemmingway.  Who knew this thing was so short?  Could probably read the entire book in an hour.  What an easy American literary classic to knock off your bucket list.

I had to read this in high school, and I am certain that I didn’t get as much out of it as I would if I read it today.

it's good so far.  this is my introduction to hemmingway, and it seems like a good one to introduce me to him.

The sun also rises is pretty good if you want to go on a Hemingway spree.

Next is As I Lay Dying by Billy Faulkner.

My fav Hemmingway is For Whom the Bell Tolls.

As for Faulkner, I haven't tried any of his work since my early 20's, but he was depressing and slow paced, iirc.
