i think it's just safe to assume that 90% ou students are horrible racists.

This is what I gathered.   SAE nationals needs to be a bit less "shocked" though.  I'd bet most of them knew this song existed in one form or another.

Supposedly SAE nationals is the one actually teaching this chant. So, yeah.

just me and ole bud Dickstone nailing this from the start.

Could be bullshit C.Y.A. on OU's part, but I could see it being true

they probably picked it up from other houses informally. but they were not instructed by the official SAE organization to do this chant.

They learned it on their leadership cruise

right, they learned it while at the leadership cruise. i'm sure it was not part of any official instruction or seminar or anything like that, which would make it significantly more scary imo.

yeah I definitely prefer my racism to come with a wink and a nod and a catchy song (and nothing official! ;-))

I do and I think that it not being officially sanctioned only makes it a teeny tiny bit better. It's part of their culture even if it's not part of their official ritual or whatever.

we already knew it was part of their culture in certain, probably southern, parts of the country. but to me this sounds like something that was exchanged in a drunken conversation or something like that, between a handful of guys. one racist house to another racist house. i could be wrong.

i don't want it to sound like i'm defending anyone associated with the chant, i just know there are many SAE houses out there that don't deserve to be labeled racist because of all this.

it was part of the culture at their rough ridin' leadership cruise. I mean it wasn't a racist-chapter-only leadership cruise, it had everyone there. I mean I suppose it's possible that the only racist chapters like reserved a racist ballroom on the boat to teach the song to each other, but IMO they're ALL responsible. They were founded in the rough ridin' Antebellum South and should be more attuned and sensitive to this type of behavior than other organizations. So yeah, they all should be held responsible.

yeah i don't disagree with that. i just know there are tons of SAEs who had no idea about the chant, and were as shocked as anyone. there are 317 chapters in the US.

 :dubious:

Of course the links confirm it, but you don't need links to assume that the song wasn't some spontaneous happening by a few racially insensitive punks. What more ridiculous, imo, is the knee-jerk reaction by SAE higher-ups/ alums when they've probably known about the song forever and likely participated themselves.

I haven't been inside many fraternities, but the fact that a bunch of sheltered, mostly upper-middle class kids from the suburbs think it's cool and fun say or sing racist stuff isn't surprising at all.
If there was a gif of nicname thwarting the attempted-flag-taker and then gesturing him to suck it, followed by motioning for all of Hilton Shelter to boo him louder, it'd be better than that auburn gif.

well, I'm sure all members of the other 318 would SAY they were shocked. Heck, the OU guys that weren't on the bus in question were probably shocked.

Thankfully, the Big12's co-flagship has been kind enough to create a list of "socially acceptable" party themes moving forward!!!

Well hello there Washburn U. Phi Delta Theta!!

http://cjonline.com/news/2015-04-16/wu-fraternity-phi-delta-theta-suspended-sexually-vulgar-texting-investigated

The suspension was actually done by the fraternity's national leadership and not the University but this seems like a pretty stupid overreaction.

Universities should probably eliminate them at this point.

(nsfw obviously)

I clicked your link and didn't feel "hazed" at all... If that's "hazing", then the worst I've ever been hazed was at bachelor parties over the years.
