the fraternity didn't give them the desire to belt that song out with such enjoyment though. they showed up w/ that.

The fraternity gave them a large group of like-minded people and the safety of "secrecy" that they wouldn't have had in many (any?) other college social situation. They aren't going to get the third floor of Haymaker or the ultimate frisbee club to participate in something like that.

are you sure about that? because they were actually filmed, with the video then being sent out publicly and were subsequently kicked out of the university. so it doesn't look like the fraternity did give them those things that you're suggesting it did. weird i know, but true.

It definitely gave them like minded individuals and yes I'm sure they wouldn't dare sing that song in any other university social arrangement.

It gave them enough secrecy to make them think it was OK (and practice before being filmed) but obviously not enough to keep them from getting kicked out. sometimes the mob mentality (also provided by SAE) just wins out over secrecy. :ck:

I caught this in the release from KSU but the "kicked in the shin and called a racist" reminded me of it:

Quote
"We have heard that some on our campus have approached members of the local chapter and made disparaging remarks," said Reagan Kays, Student Governing Association president. "This is not reflective of K-State values or the way we conduct ourselves as individuals. Please do not judge our fellow students based on the actions of others."

By the way. The opening segment to the Daily Show last night was phenomenal.

Why would they cheer the OU player's comments? Obviously he is angry but what he said is ridiculous.

Who's the bigger grandstanding jackass; David Boren a.k.a DBo, that recruit's mother, or the collective OU football team?

Or maybe it's frat guys whose biggest worry after seeing this video was that it would make ALL frat guys look bad.

It's the frat guys, but out of the choices given, it's DBo. OU should have done a better job vetting the organizations it associates itself with.

Fraternities and Sororities do far more good than harm

They raise/donate hundreds of millions of dollars to local charities, volunteer countless hours in the community and have far higher retention/graduation rates the geeds.

It's pathetic that the acts of a few are used as an excuse to punish the institution as a whole. Maybe we should just close down the university instead of one facet of its community housing. So stupid

Who would have thought that rich white boys being caught on camera singing about lynched niggers would be the social issue that united fsd and I?

We're basically united on every social issue. You just like to argue and write really long posts.
