By the way, Austin radio is absolutely blasting A&M on their potential move to the SEC. They appear pretty desperate to not have the SEC be able to recruit the state. They're throwing out some really, really bad arguments, and it's pretty transparent that they're shilling for UT. I really think it's in A&M's best interest to go to the SEC...
Yep. Would be amazing for them to get in the SEC and away from TX. Could pull a lot of kids to play in the best FB league.
Yeah. I've been listening to 104.9 FM ("The Horn," if that gives you any clue to their intentions) non-stop today and here's what I've heard:
-The token Aggie host is going on and on about how "treasonous" it would be for A&M to leave their rivalry with Texas behind, how A&M's identity is based solely on tradition and the bonfire and beating UT and how because Arkansas got swallowed up by the SEC, A&M will too. He also thinks because Arkansas went to the SEC and got "swallowed" that A&M automatically will as well. My response: Survive/evolve or die, dumbass. Tradition doesn't mean crap anymore, just ask Missouri and Nebraska. It would be better for them to shed their little brother image and make their own decisions anyway. The exposure they would get in the SEC on ESPN and CBS would be MILES better than what they would get in the Pac 10/16/2452363267. Plus, the money/exposure Arkansas is getting in the SEC is miles better than what they would have gotten in the Big 12, and sooner or later I'm sure they'll break through anyway. Their stability is much, much higher in the SEC anyway.
-The morning host (UT shill) is saying that not only would the SEC recruiting Texas hurt UT but it would hurt A&M as well. That's a dumbass argument because now A&M coaches will be able to say "hey? Wanna play in the best football conference in the country? Want to go to Sanford Stadium, Tiger Stadium, the Swamp, and Bryant-Denny while not going too far from home? Come to Aggieland!" It's clear that A&M would benefit in recruiting, UT wouldn't.
-That same morning host put out the worst argument I've heard in sports radio since I listened to 610 AM when I was at KU: "This is like Tiger Woods getting together with Phil Mickelson and saying 'hey, let's go make our own golf tour and bring about 9-10 of the best golfers in the country.' But then one of the golfers would be like 'oh, I don't really wanna go, I'll just go back to playing at the PGA tour.'" It was at that point that both my dad (NU/KU alum) and my heads exploded and we turned off the radio.
