They aren't legally bound to stick with Kansas State -- a Kansas board of regents member said as much this week -- but they're "unofficially" bound with the Wildcats due to political pressure. (Martin said that it would be "a crying shame" to separate the two schools, because he feels they co-represent the state.)

That's all talk . . . and we all know it.  As stated . . . there's no LEGAL ties whatsoever.

It doesn't matter, 'Pad.  Perception is reality.

Yeah Ben, because we all know 7 figure salary CEO's never pick up the phone or have any of their people vet that stuff . . . they just read message boards and listen to the media spiel and run with it.

Not sure why it's so hard to accept that K-State is like a hemorrhoid on the tip of KU's ass crack at this point.  KU can't shake the perception that both schools are tied together.

I don't know why it's so hard for you to accept that you're just a dumbass who simply parrots all the dumbass stuff that Tardville says . . . so, one day your telling us that Lew Perkins and all the people running the ku athletic department are f'ing geniuses and the next day your trying to tell us they're completely incapable of picking up the phone and calling the Big 10/Pac-10/SEC or ACC offices and squashing "perception".   A phone call that should take about 2 minutes per office.

Just more fail from the Bentard.

KU and K-State both want to remain in the Big 12.  KU isn't going to start looking elsewhere until all hell breaks loose.  It's awesome how  :curse:  you get when it comes to this type of stuff, though.

More jedi mind tricks from Bentard.

What's hilarious is that you know in your heart of hearts as you clutch your little jayhawk doll tight at night in bed . . . that Lew "Multi tasking Genius" Perkins and Marchiony have already destroyed these "perceptions" with their contacts at the other conferences . . . and still no one wants ku.   The thought of that is crushing what self esteem tardville has left . . . which ain't much.

I know for a fact that the Big 10 and Pac 10 have both inquired about KU.  This whole realignment thing is happening in phases, 'Pad.  You have no idea what's going on behind the scenes.  KU could very well be in the Big 10's long-term plans.   K-State, on the other hand....

No $hit captain obvious . . . the Big 10 and Pac 10 have inquired about a lot of schools, a lot of schools COULD BE in the Big 10's long term plans . . . then again if they really want ND, it's doubtful they go beyond that because that will be one of the demands that ND makes, otherwise it's completely watered down.   In addition, we understand that we might not have many options . . . it's absolutely killing Tardville thinking that ku might not have many options either.   Reconcile yourself to that reality and learn to handle it.

Chip Brown
Orangebloods.com Columnist

Talk about it in Inside the 40 Acres
Two executives in the Big 12 told Orangebloods.com Wednesday Nebraska does not yet have an invitation to the Big Ten. Those executives said Nebraska will not leave the Big 12 unless it has that invitation.

But there may be one coming.

Dan Beebe and the Big 12 appear to be at the mercy of Nebraska and other outside forces.
According to a story by Lee Barfknecht of the Omaha World-Herald, a respected reporter covering the Big 12 for years, Nebraska is expected to leave for the Big Ten as early as Friday, according to information provided to Barfknecht by an executive at another Big 12 school.

That is the day Nebraska's Board of Regents is meeting in Lincoln. That timeline also seems to jibe with comments made by Nebraska athletic director Tom Osborne on his monthly radio show on the Husker Sports Network "to get things together in the next few days."

But Osborne acknowledged, "There's a lot of information we really don't have right now."

Like an invitation?

Here's his entire quote:

"I suppose there is quite a bit I can speculate on, but as you and I talked before the show came on there's a lot of information we really don't have right now," Osborne said.

"Hopefully we'll get things put together in the next few days. Anything I would say regarding Nebraska's position or other schools in the Big 12 right now would be pure speculation at this point and I don't think that's very helpful. As much as I know fans don't like it, I think we need to put certain things off limits.

"I think before too long, I don't know exactly what that time frame is, but we'll be able to put this thing to bed because I'm getting tired of it."

BIG 12's FINAL SUPPER ON JUNE 14?

Two different executives in the Big 12 confirmed to Orangebloods.com Wednesday morning the hard deadline for Nebraska, Missouri, Colorado and the entire Big 12 to pledge their allegiance to each other is Monday, June 14.

A high-level executive at a Big 12 institution said there have been informal conversations about who to add to the Big 12 if schools start to leave. Those schools have included BYU and Air Force.

But that same executive as well as others in the Big 12 have told Orangebloods.com the conference will not survive if Nebraska leaves - no matter who else stays or goes.

If Nebraska were to stay in the Big 12 and Missouri and Colorado were to leave, for example, the sense is the Big 12 could attempt to add schools like BYU and Air Force to the Big 12 North and move ahead.

TEXAS AND TEXAS A&M MEET THURSDAY

In a related development, a legislative source with knowledge of Texas A&M said officials from A&M and Texas will meet on Thursday to discuss all the goings on and to make sure they are on the same page if the Big 12 falls apart. The source said, however, that Texas and Texas A&M remain steadfast in lobbying for the Big 12 to stay together.

NOTRE DAME'S CALL

The future of the Big 12 appears to continue to hinge on the Big Ten's deliberations with Notre Dame. The Big Ten has promised Notre Dame it will stop its expansion at 12 schools if Notre Dame agrees to finally forgo its independence and become part of a conference, an athletic director with knowledge of the Big Ten has told Orangebloods.com.

Notre Dame is apparently locked in a battle among its Board of Trustees about what to do. There are some who fear the Irish being left out of the formation of what could well become four, super conferences in college athletics. That could cost Notre Dame its access to a BCS bid.

The Big Ten has also given indications it will go east and possibly raid anywhere from one to three schools from the Big East, where Notre Dame plays its other sports, leaving the Irish scrambling even more.

In the ultimate irony, the only way Notre Dame may be able to avoid the super conference scenario is by doing what it least wants to do: give up its independence and lucrative NBC/Comcast contract and join a conference.

Sources have told Orangebloods.com the Big Ten would not be handing out any more invitations if Notre Dame agrees to join the league. An AD source reaffirmed to Orangebloods.com Wednesday that "there is a timeline involved" between Notre Dame and the Big Ten.

Joe Schad of ESPN reported this week Notre Dame doesn't appear to be budging.

The longer there is silence about Notre Dame's intentions, the more reason to believe Notre Dame could remain on its own.

COLORADO'S BAD TIMING

In another development, one source inside the Big 12 told Orangebloods.com Tuesday Colorado was expected to have a major announcement as early as Wednesday. But that announcement turned out to be with regard to scholarship reductions for the Colorado football and basketball programs because of substandard NCAA APR (Academic Progress Rates).

According to information obtained by OB, Colorado will have scholarships reduced for football and basketball when the report is released by the NCAA Wednesday.

CU is the only BCS football program to be sanctioned with scholarship reductions and is one of only two BCS basketball programs to get sanctioned, OB has learned.

The timing is poor considering the school's possible courtship with some of the more high-minded academic institutions in the Pac-10.

The Boulder Daily Camera reported a regents meeting at CU Tuesday night produced nothing more than legal advice about different scenarios. CU officials said they have not yet received an invitation from the Pac-10, according to the report.

Despite that claim, speculation continues to swirl that Colorado could be preparing to accept a bid from the Pac-10 Conference, which has targeted the Buffaloes for expansion.

As Orangebloods.com first reported last Thursday, Pac-10 commissioner Larry Scott's preference is to expand the Pac-10 by six schools. That original list included Texas, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and Colorado.

BAYLOR'S FIGHT FACING RESISTANCE?

Since that report legislators and lobbyists with loyalty to Baylor have launched an all-out effort in the Texas Legislature to ensure that Baylor remains with the rest of the Big 12 South if it were to move to the Pac-10.

One top source close to the possible merger between the Pac-10 and six Big 12 schools said some schools in the Pac-10, including California-Berkeley, have a real issue with adding an institution with religious ties like Baylor to the conference.

GOVERNMENT INTERVENTION?

It has been expressed to Orangebloods.com by a top collegiate executive that any movement toward four, 16-team super conferences will be met with resistance by Congress.

The executive said that could be bad news for college athletics because Congress has already taken some cursory looks at the fact athletic departments enjoy a tax-exempt status as part of their universities.

The executive said if it appears the rich are getting richer in college athletics, there will be a hard look at whether to take away the tax exempt status of athletic departments.

"And it won't just be Orin Hatch (a member of the U.S. Senate Finance Committee from Utah and longtime BCS critic) looking into this," the source said.

Stay tuned.

Why the eff would we add Air Force? They rough ridin' suck at everything. Utah, BYU, Houston, and even Tulsa would be better fits.

AF is something I've been pondering throughout this.  When looking at some sort of MWC-big12scraps merger, my intial thought was "axe AF".  However, I'm not so sure after thinking about it more.  I'd be curious to see how the academies draw TV wise.

The harder the move towards a 64 team super conference, the more political and legal resistence that it will meet.    They'll be wise to have 6 conferences with BCS automatics . . . you can't potentially cut entire states and their schools out of this without understanding that their legislative reps are going to be dragging your butt up to Capital Hill for years.

http://www.foxsportsohio.com/06/09/10/Reports-Nebr%20aska-to-Join-Big-Ten/landing.html?blockID=250141&a%20mp;feedID=3724

After a weekend of denials and hushed discussions, the Big Ten will expand to 12 teams as early as Friday. Reports are emerging that the Nebraska Cornhuskers will become the 12th team in the league.

The Big Ten has officially offered an invitation to Nebraska.

Over the weekend, the Big 12 Conference demanded a loyalty pledge from all of its' members, and only 9 teams complied.  Two of the three holdouts, Nebraska and Missouri, were given until this Friday to decide if they wanted to stay in the league, and the ultimatum has apparently pushed the Huskers into the Big 10.

“I think before too long — I don't know exactly what that time frame is — we'll be able to put this to bed,'' said Nebraska Athletic Director Tom Osborne, “because I'm getting tired of it.''

The Big Ten had announced plans to explore expansion six months ago, but had placed a 12-to-18 month timetable on the matter.  But as other conferences began the same discussions, each league found themselves pushing up their plans.  The Big Ten will be the first conference this year to grow.

The Big 12's ultimatum appears to have been the deciding factor, but Osborne downplayed that possibility.

“We certainly don't have anything against anybody in the Big 12,'' the former Husker coach said. “This decision is not going to be based on animosity or petty jealousy. You're talking about something that could maintain for the next 75 to 100 years."

An official announcement is expected by Friday afternoon, but a press conference could be held as early as today.

With Nebraska moving to the Big Ten, the conference would now be home to four of the NCAA's most legendary football schools.  Ohio State, Penn State, and Michigan are the league's standard-bearers and a fourth powerhouse would boost the overall image of the conference.  Furthermore, it would bring another enormous fanbase into the league.

Memorial Stadium currently averages 86,000 fans per home game, which would give the Big Ten five stadiums that hold 80,000 fans or more.  Ohio Stadium, Michigan Stadium, and Penn State's Beaver Stadium each top out at over 100,000.  Wisconsin's Camp Randall holds just over 80k.

With the first shift in conference expansion taking place, most college football analysts expect more to occur soon.  There is outside interest in adding Missouri to the Big Ten, and the talks regarding Notre Dame has picked up again.

Guys, we're fine.  This is all just speculation built upon speculation built upon assumptions that may or may not be relevant or real.

http://www.kstatesports.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=400&ATCLID=3740500

You're way to harsh on the guy . . . he said in another interview with our buddy KR that they're not just sitting there and hoping and doing nothing else.   Come on, the guy doesn't know what is and isn't speculation??   As one of our newest members said who supposedly was in a meeting with a athletic department GA . . . there's a lot more speculation going on than there is reality.

Well, we wouldn't have 56 57 pages if this was all Fantasyland.  We'd probably have around 20 pages.

Trim hyper embellishment . . . never said this was fantasy land, Currie has never said it was fantasy land.   I guess you'd just rather have a guy who showed all the cards all the time running the show . . . maybe Tim Weiser and Jon Wefald sitting up in front of the country crying is more your style.

I love Ben's projection of anger on others as an argument. Every time. Never fails.

Also using "perception" as an actual reason professionals who's job it is to get what they want, are, in this case, not getting what they want. Hilarious.
