We still have the issue of having west virginia in our conference as some bizzare rough ridin' outlier

That's West Virginia's problem not the rest of ours, they signed up for it, deal with it.

This.

Plus we are going to be the only conf without a champ game

So.

Why do we NEED one? We will never need one.

We assume that the new selection committee won't hold not having one against us, but you never know.

It won't matter. Any team not named Oklahoma or Texas will need to go undefeated with or with out a CCG. Texas and OU can lose one and go.

Will an 11-1 OU make it in front of a 12-1 Florida State that's played, and beaten, ND, Oklahoma State, and Florida in the non-con?

The tricky part about this is that you have four chairs for five people.  Take the AAC, MWC, CUSA, etc. out of the equation.  You now officially have musical chairs every single year because they are "supposed" to favor conference champions.

You have a 12-1 Ohio State in a garbage Big Ten, a 12-1 Alabama that won the SEC, a 12-1 Oregon, a 12-1 Florida State, and an 11-1 Texas.  Not to mention a couple of other 11-1 SEC and/or Big Ten teams thrown into the mix.

What happens then?  Is Texas assured a spot?

Yes both OU and Texas get in in your scenarios assuming their loss is to a bowl team.

What if I flip the scenario and A&M won the SEC and Alabama was 11-1 with a loss to A&M?

It gets really complicated, and that 12th win can be a very handy differentiator.  It may be hard for them to go on their ESPN selection show and say, "Well, even though Texas played one less game, they should be in over a Florida State team that played and won an extra game against a bowl team."

I'm not saying it's rock solid logic or anything, but we don't know what the selection committee is going to do.

I do and UT and OU always get in with 1 loss as long as the one loss comes vs a bowl team.

9 of the 14-20 guys picking/seeding the playoff will come from conferences that have a CCG. You're lying to yourself if you don't think they won't look down their noses at the one conference pussying out on the 13 game because UT, OU, and their commish have been very open about avoiding an extra stubbling block.

Tell the SEC to schedule 9 conference games.  When they do that, then they can tell us to schedule a CCG.

And to be fair, it was reported (rumored?) a few months ago that the Big 12 WANTS to have a championship game, but the NCAA said that we couldn't have a CCG with only 10 teams.  I can think of no logical reason why a conference has to have 12 members before it can have a CCG, but when has the NCAA ever used logic?

EDIT: Heck, maybe we should ask the SEC and ACC to back our request to the NCAA for a 10-team CCG the next time we file a petition.  Supposedly, we're friends with the SEC now that we've partnered for the "Champions Bowl" and with the ACC now that we might be forming a scheduling alliance with them.

yeah, the SEC is the conference pussing out. Our 9-game schedule is rough ridin' murder compared to the puds the top SEC teams get to play.

I'm not saying that.

But look at the schedules... Alabama played 9 SEC teams, 1 good noncon (Mich) and 3 creampuffs last year.  K-State played 9 Big 12 teams and 1 good noncon (Miami) and 2 creampuffs last year.

Both teams were conference champions.  Both teams finished with 1 loss.  Was Alabama's schedule so  much better than ours that it made them worthy of the playoffs while we have to sit at home?  I mean, the difference between our schedules is they played 1 more creampuff than we did.

The differences are where they were ranked in the preseason, when they lost, and who they lost to.

So in that case, what does it matter whether we have a CCG or not?  Alabama makes the playoff because of things completely unrelated to the SEC CCG (ie, they were the best team in the country), and K-State misses the playoff because of things completely unrelated to the lack of a Big 12 CCG (ie, we were not one of the top 4 teams in the country).

The decision to take Louisville would have had zero to do with the past season. Louisville football has been just as good if not better than WVU the last 20 years. Anyway it is stupid to make a decision on a school for a conference based on how good a football team currently is, those things are cyclical. The decisions should be based on the earning potential of the school for the conference. I love 10 for the Big 12 but Louisville would have been a better choice for the conference over TCU because of the cash potential, it shouldn't have mattered that TCU has been better the last 15 years.

MIR, you're a good man.  But do a little research before you start saying crap that makes you look stupid.  WVU is a top 15 team in all time wins.  UL stadium capacity was around 40,000 up to a few years ago; WVU is over 60,000 and sells out many more times that LU ever has.

Only an idiot would think LU is a better choice over VWU.

This is bullshit conjecture. You don't make multi-million dollar decisions based on some conspiracy theory rooted in an inferiority complex. All the evidence we have is that the Big 12 having ten teams is no deterrent to having a team in a four team playoff. Last season the conference was down and we were still the 2nd best conference in the country.

If you want to have a conference championship because you think they are fun then fine say that, like GFA did, but lets not act like the Big 12 is looked at like some second rate cake walk because that isn't true and you know it.

I think the reality is that the 4 team playoff will be expanded to 8 teams pretty quickly, anyway. It is much harder to pick the 4 best teams than it is the 2 best teams.

Im saying Deloss, Bowlsby, and Boren should have kept their rough ridin' mouths shut about openly saying we don't want to have to play an extra game like everyone else does. Fortunately for them, they are the only two programs who can get around it. If any if the other 8 go 11-1 to win the conference they will get passed by a 12-1 team from another conference every year.  There is no way we are going to 12 now anyway with the available options, so the discussion if we should go to 12 for a CCG is moot. Just saying if you want to stay at 10, fine, just don't make public comments that admit you think playing one less game makes it easier.
