This really makes a connection with the Mighty Ducks movie I watched as a kid.  K-state = Banks.  We are fracked and can't play in a good league (In the movie it'd = the team hawks).  However, a shitty team (Ducks = Mountain West) says hey, either you play for us or you're out.  We then join Mountain West and dominate.

Unicorns aside, this will kill college sports.

I keep thinking of Franz Ferdinand here for some reason.  The Big Ten wants something as simple as a conference championship and Notre Dame, and the next thing you know, after a couple of minor events (relatively speaking) regarding teams considering leaving their conferences, we end up completely altering college sports as we know it.

Kind of like how the murder of an Archduke in Austria ended up triggering World War I.  Sure, there were a lot of dominoes that fell after that, but the catalyst was a seemingly insignificant event that caused everyone to freak the ---- out and destroy the world as we know it.

I am very interested in what the implications are if the four supposed super 16-team conference are formed and there's a fifth MWC-16 sitting there with the schools (including us) that we have discussed.  Could this fifth conference still be left out of the "BCS"-esque thingy?   

If so, why bother growing to 16?

My only thought (hope) is that to prevent complete upheaval, the BCS opens it up to 80 total teams.  Sure, 64 is a nice, round number, but to prevent college sports from becoming a complete nightmare, inclusion may be the only thing that saves it.

But...an eight team playoff with the winners of each division would be good symmetry.  So it's hard to say.
