They have their own TV network already.   They play pretty damn good football, combined they've won 3 BCS bowl games in the last 5 years including beating OU and embarrassing the $hit out of Alabama.

How profitable is their network? Is it worth not having an automatic BCS bid?

The BB would be fracking horrible.  Recruiting will be shot to hell....worse than it is now.  Kids will laugh after mentioning that we are trying to contact them.

That could leave colleges like Kansas and Kansas State to be snapped up by the Big East, which could be its best bet to continue using the lure of a B.C.S. bid for football recruits.

I would prefer the Big East.  Pretty much the best case scenario for BB recruiting if TX leaves.  Would open up the NE more since they would get to play for Frank and still play near their homes.  I like this.  Football can suck it.

Hmm, good point.  I change my vote to the Big East.  Although the San Diego/Vegas football roadies far surpass any Big East football destination.  (DePaul/St. John's would be fantastic bball destinations, though).

I think this all boils down to who the PAC 10 invites as their final team.  If Baylor, the TX schools may go no matter what NU does.  If CU gets the invite, the BigXII will pretty much stay the same.

Will be interesting to see, if CU is picked, whether CU is still welcome by the PAC10 when the TX schools stay in the BigXII.

CU, you can only come if you hot friends come too.

Some of you guys are a bunch of freaking drama queens when it comes to the MWC.  

What will change recruiting wise if the 6 Big 12 schools go to the PAC-10 . . . NOTHING.   We aren't stealing anybody from those schools as it is now . . . yet that didn't prevent Boise State from winning 2 BCS bowls in the last 4 or 5 years, it didn't prevent Utah from utterly destroying Alabama.  Is Utah competing against SEC schools for recruits??    Will they suddenly up the recruiting numbers to 35 a year and 115 on scholarship??  Not a chance with Title 9 on the table.  

Yes Basketball might take a "hit" . . . but it's relative, this is all about Football, basketball is barely on the radar screen of these decisions, in fact being too powerful in basketball and not that good in football may be a hinderence.  

Football is king . . . period.   We'll never get the K-State mentallity to get ticket prices high enough in basketball to do anything signficant as an athletic department.   If you're going to throw all your eggs into basketball, then eventually no BCS or near BCS conference is going to want K-State.

This thread really has two things going on:

1. the rational discussion regarding football being what feeds the beast and that FB rev is a must to survive.

2. Me not caring about having a good FB team as long as we still play a good BB schedule and stay competitive.  

I understand that #1 has to happen, and that it has potential to hamstring #2.  Just really don't want to watch the MVC BB season unfold.  Just looks boring as crap for a guy who will not be making many of those roadies.

I understand about MWC basketball . . . but it's not like there's no one there capable of being decent.   Utah was good under Majerus, UNM appears to be headed up under Alford, BYU doesn't suck.   Yeah it's not as compelling as the Big 12 in hoops, I get that . . . the new Big East has some intrigue as well, I just don't see those remaining Big East teams sticking out their hand very far to get K-State though.  

But . . . ND says Yes to the Big 10 and it's all over on the Big 10 side, Cornhole and Moo will be told to go F themselves.   The lynchpin is STILL Notre Dame.

The question still remains. Why wouldn't the Big XII cherry pick the teams it wants from those leagues and retain BCS status? Hell, call it a merger and take them all in, along with Boise State.

MWC basketball isn't as terrible as everyone is making it out to be. If KU and Baylor come with us, it would be a pretty solid conference, actually. Even without KU, I'm sure we would continue to play them in the nonconference schedule.
