Of all of the crazy ass scenarios that came through to kill the Big 12, I really didn't think this would have been one of them.  Huh.

The only thing that's going to save this conference (and our ass) is Texas deciding that they like owning their own BCS conference and convincing everyone else (or mostly everyone else) to stick around.  I can see them keeping the South together for the most part, and if that's the case, the Pac 10 may tell Colorado to piss off if they aren't bringing everyone else with them.

But...s--t.  This is bad.  Even if the proposed alignment is Fake Sugar Dick (WARNING, NOT THE REAL SUGAR DICK!) (and it is), it's enough to disturb the fragile balance that's already out there, and it may cause some teams to move even if they don't really need to.  That's what's scary about this.

Here's a concern for OSU and OU, will the PAC10 lower academic standards or will they drop down to OU and OSU's?  If they have to go up....Oklahoma just became a recruiting gold mine along with Texas.

The Pac-10 has been viewed as more ally than threat, with Big 12 officials traveling to Phoenix last month to discuss a possible TV partnership between the two leagues. This was pointed out to Kansas athletic director Lew Perkins when he jokingly referred to the Pac-10 as "the dark side" earlier this week.

The only thing I like about all of this realignment talk is seeing the really bad projections, this is the worst.  You can tell he is a dumbass KU fan.  Basketball will not be the lynchpin holding a "major" conference together.  As much as I love basketball this model would absolutely hemorrhage money, well not really because there would be no money to hemorrhage out.  The Big East model didn't work for that conference, why would anyone try that again?  They had moderate success because the Big East is a basketball tradition rich conference in the media capital of the country, but the football schools are dying to get out.  Would this Heartland horseshit even get a TV deal of any kind?  Butler, LOL, last year their mens basketball revenue was $1.7 million, that compares favorably with the estroballers when they are going real good.  No one gives a rats ass about their Final Four.

Football drives this expansion and this is a god awful football conference that would never happen.  FAIL

What’s a tough pill to swallow is the mountain west, or whatever crappy conference we end up in, is probably where we “deserve” to be, given our size as a university and athletic department.  But it still doesn’t change the fact that moving to a crappy conference is not good for anything we do athletically or institutionally.  Our only saving grace, institutionally, is if we drag Kansas with us.  Because if kids (not just recruits) have a choice in this state whether to go to a Pac 10 school or a mountain west school, which one are they going to choose?  Because the choice is pretty fracking clear in Colorado…CSU’s enrollment is around 25K, CU’s is around 54K…sound familiar?  And that’s in a state with nearly double the population of Kansas.  Kansas (the university of) better hope that they can whore themselves out well enough AND that A&M or OU decide not to take the Pac-10 offer and go to the SEC, cause they are just as fracked as we are if they have to go to the Mountain West.   Bill f’ing Self is not going to coach in the Mountain West conference, nor is any coach worth a sh*t once he leaves.  Name a fracking non-bcs member that has won a national championship in basketball…….you have to go back to Lousiville in 1986 (they were an independent then).  Kansas fans want, desperately, to think that they’ll be able to maintain their “status” if they were relegated to the mountain west, but that’s a pipe dream.

1. get in a conference with other crappy schools that still has all the rights to postseason stuff that every other school/conference has
2. big12 stays the same
3. end up in lesser type conf w/ ku
4a end up in lesser type conf w/out ku
4b close the university and we all pick a random big timey school out of a hat to cheer for. i nominate florida.
