So Boise State gained absolutely nothing by moving to the Big East, right?
Increased travel expensive (more chances of their Semi blowing up cattle)
Boise and SDSU will go the MWC, likely that BYU will too.
Agree, Big East is going to be a Basketball conference with some football very soon.
The Big East, as we know it, is not going to exist in the next few years.
The basketball schools will peel off. I think it's just a matter of time before the Catholic BBall schools end up merging with some of the best schools in the A-10 to create a conference full of private basketball schools in large metro areas.
Think of something like this:
St. John's (New York)
Providence
Georgetown (DC)
Villanova (Philly)
Seton Hall (Newark...essentially)
Marquette (Milwaukee)
DePaul (Chicago)
Butler (Indianapolis)
Xavier (Cincinnati)
St. Louis
Dayton
VCU (Richmond)
I realize VCU isn't private, but if you're creating a mid-major all-star conference, this would be it. You could create two divisions where the five "original" Big East teams are in a division with VCU, and Marquette and DePaul can now have much closer games to reduce travel costs.
Once the Big East we know dies, there will be a void in NYC during conference tournament season. MSG could, ultimately, end up being a destination for the ACC, Big Ten, and (New) Big East. Years where the conference tournament isn't played in MSG, it could be held in Chicago, Indy, Cincy, etc.
I think there is a lot of potential there, and it would make a tremendous league that would be a fantastic addition to the college landscape.
