However, under the "Top 4 Teams" model (supported by all of SEC, and by Oliver Luck as of 10 minutes ago), both COULD go.

Yeah, the SEC has been all over the top 4 regardless of champions (for good reason). Luck being behind it puts our ND chances to bed unless we go to four super conferences. Goes well with the no championship game stuff though.

This year we would have had a 2 team tie, not a 3 team tie. If we had a tie, I'm guessing they would use the highest playoff selection poll ranked team as the champ for the playoff. Last thing you want is #7 KSU being the Big12 champ for the playoff, not getting in, then forcing #5 OU to get in as at-large.

Edit, I read your post wrong. At that point we would have just sent the top ranked of the 3 as the conference champ.

I just edited my post before I saw this. For some reason after I read your post my mind changed it to some scenario where KSU/OU/OSU all went 1-1 against eachother.

You are right, we would have sent OU because I'm sure the 1st tie breaker would have been record against the other teams you are tied with. However, if we are going to an environment where the selection criteria affect if we get a team in the playoff (and the $ that goes with it), we change the rules to maximize our ability to get a team into the playoff. Before it didn't matter because conf. champ had nothing to do with the BCS title game, and if that game wasn't involved we still got a team in the Fiesta and got the Fiesta money. In this situation our conf. champ's playoff selection poll ranking may impact how much post-season money we get. If the situation changes to where that becomes a reality (only conf. champs or 3-and-1), the smart thing to do would be to change the rules to maximize the possible money.

The Big 12 and SEC are in agreement that the top 4 teams should be in the playoff.

Neinas also says that they must re-introduce strength of schedule into the "poll" that decides the top four teams...it is not in the BCS formula at the moment.

SOS factor kills the big east and ACC, especially if Their top teams are plundered. Essentially allows the remote chance for one of their teams to win a brutal non con and sweep the league but doesn't directly exclude them.

Honest question for the board: Why do we want to expand? 12, 14, 16, whatever. Why do we want it?

If we expand and form divisions, K-State will get stuck in a division where our drivable road trips are Ames and Lawrence, plus some flights to WVU, Clemson or FSU. We'll get stuck in a division with no Texas teams, dramatically reducing our ability to recruit in Texas. We'll be stuck with teams that we have absolutely nothing in common with. What's in it for us, other than some extra dollars?

because if we don't, someone else does. a year ago we thought we would be in the Mtn West. remember what that felt like? it felt awful. if we sit on 10 eventually someone forms a stronger league by taking one or both of our remaining teams that are worth a damn. or TX goes solo. if we add a couple more teams that are worth a damn and get a monster long term tv deal with a huge rough ridin' grant of rights we are much more secure than if we sit at 10 (a much weaker 10 than our previous 12 or 10). geographic crap is fine to talk about so ma and pa jode can hop in the family shitwagon and take the clan to a roadie once a year but when that roadie is to New Mexico State it starts sounding much less appealing. you think the ACC isn't going to move aggressively after going through what they are going through right now? It sucks and I hate to do it but we need to do whatever we can to make OUR conference as stable/strong as possible.

that's Fake Sugar Dick (WARNING, NOT THE REAL SUGAR DICK!). the league isn't more secure with more teams. if texas leaves, the whole thing crumbles irregardless of who else is there. ou and fsu aren't going to sit in the texasless big 12 thinking "welp, sucks that the league sucks now, but we're here now - no choice but to just play kstate and isu until the end of time."
