Just finished writing a rebuttal to those now saying #Mizzou made a mistake leaving the #Big12. Will post for free in an hour and a half.

I stopped following him.  I can't take his crap.

i can't believe he is actually writing that article.

He and his father were the primary media members out there championing the move.  Of course he has to refute any arguments that they may actually be, you know, wrong.

No one was more militant about leaving the Big 12 than the DeArmonds.  Mike was the one that floated Clay Travis' BS numbers out there for their network as reason to move.

What I'm really going to love about all of this is that we'll be making about $24 million (sans CCG revenue) on Tier 1 and Tier 2, and then after we figure out what we're going to do with Tier 3, we'll probably be making more than Missouri does.

I'm just going to wrap myself in that thought like a warm blanket.

I wasn't happy about mu leaving but there's nothing wrong with enjoying the fsu addition and laughing at mizzou, given the circumstances.
That's fine I guess, but it's important to remember that all of this conference realignment stuff is complete bullshit.

If I was a fan of FSU/Clemson I'd hate our AD and I'd hate pretending like I cared about any game against a team from a place like Kansas or Iowa.

I rather be faced with the choice of driving 16 hrs to Morgantown for a major conference game then 8 hrs to Fort Collins every other year.

We have no say regardless, so bitch and moan all you want. We're on the sidelines and there's nothing we can do about it except drink the kool aid.
Yeah, because there's a chance that could happen.

I think we do have a say, actually.  I think fans have a lot more of a role in this, especially through social media, than most probably realize.

Of course there's a chance that could happen. Were you not around last summer?

I do agree about the role of the fans, though. Mizzou fans and A&M fans wanted to move more than the university officials did, and if they didn't turn themselves into such an angry mob, I don't think Mizzou would have left.

Who didn't like getting to play everybody in the conference last fall?  I might give that up to have Notre Dame in our division and revive a championship game, but without the Irish I prefer 10.

And so does legendary K-Stater DeLoss Dodds.

Florida State will wither and die.

The Irish would be good for K-State for the extra money, but I'm not really all that interested in watching K-State play Notre Dame. As a fan, the Irish do absolutely nothing for me. FSU and Clemson would be fun games.

Jay Nixon being a complete MU fanboy was the biggest factor here.  His actions were more instrumental than any.  The DeArmonds then led the fan revolt and continued to fan the flames.

Well, we (as in you and I) will not be making anything off of this deal. It's very nice for K-State, though. They will have a ton of money to hoard while simultaneously cutting recruiting budgets, etc.

The talking point of "we" not getting any of this money is over.  We get it.  KSU AD won't cut any of the fans checks.  It can officially be dropped.

Listening to Neinas on College Football Live.  What a boss.

Just an amazing man.  He said nothing, but he said everything.  Ya know?

Didn't hear this one, but the guy is fantastic.  It's like he is FakeDanBeebe, only he is real, and he says those things during actual interviews.  I wish he was 20yrs younger and that he would be ours forever.

Listening to fans talk about how fans aren't getting any of the money is now the most boring part of the Cigars thread, somehow toppling the incredibly boring speculation on hypothetical divisional scenarios.

it is amazing what can happen when a person does his job with the goals of his employer as his first priority instead of his own career

It's time to quit worrying about who is coming and who is not.  The more interesting development by far is the bowl situation.

I can guarantee the Pac12 and big 10 are going to drag their feet. When talks break down over how the new 4 team playoffs should work they will decide to go back to the old bowl system and play in the Rose Bowl. Let the polls determine the national champion.

What do the Big XII and SEC do at that point? Start playoffs with everybody else? Almost certainly we'll just play our Champions bowl. And then after one or two years of that, the Rose Bowlers will say: "Oh hey, Champions Bowl, how about we play one more game with the winners of our bowls?"

Then it gets fun. That's when the NCAA blows up. Because that would violate NCAA rules and there is no way the ACC, Big East, or any other D1 teams can stand for that.

When the four power conferences are not in the NCAA, they won't be subject to NCAA rules.  All new rules. Players will get paid "stipends". Recruiting rules will be relaxed. There will be a whole new basketball tournament.  The works. This is happening.

None of that is contingent upon Notre Dame or Florida State or anybody else joining our conference. Anybody not in when the music stops is toast. And the music stopped last Friday.

Once NCAA blows up, then none of it is tax exempt either.  So the money changes for the worse.  Would have to be a big, big, big, difference to make it worth while, or would have to find a way to form a new tax exempt entity.  The latter would cause some seriously entertaining political stuff.

Of course it will still be tax exempt.  The new entity will still be a non-profit entity serving the needs of students and student-athletes.

The first big article SI did about blowing up the NCAA and creating the 4 super conferences a while ago discussed this as one of the biggest road blocks.

I found this.  Do you have a link to any more?  Because this is really weak.  And it's from Dan Beebe.

Quote
The potential move set off alarm bells in other quarters of the sport. At schools such as Kansas and Kansas State, which could have fallen from the elite level in a drastic reorganization, there was outright panic. At the NCAA level, some worried such an obviously money-motivated move would further harm the NCAA's efforts to maintain amateurism. Big 12 commissioner Dan Beebe, who was trying to save his league, even posited in an internal white paper that the move might prompt the federal government to consider revoking the NCAA's tax-exempt status.

I don't have a link, but it was from the SI article first suggesting the superconf change.  Iirc, it was a couple yrs ago.  Don't recall the exact discussion, but it mentioned the loss of tax exemption.

I am sure that, given the right conditions, what ever new structure emerged could file and possibly get tax exemption given the right amount of politicking.  However, that maybe tough if the new structure relaxes rules and pays players.  congress may recognize that as a biz w/ employees rather than something for the betterment of students.
