Also, for those who suddenly want to think we have no sources on expansion, I'd like to remind people that while the entire world insisted the Big 12 was done the last two summers, we consistently reported on this board that we were being told it still looked strong for conference survival.

When those sources give us something on the last ACC stuff, we will share it with you, but I honestly think this was message board chatter that somehow has made powerful people at FSU realize there is some real sense in joining the Big 12. Thus is the world in which we now live.

OK, here's the latest   

I spoke to a few people today and just spoke to John Currie about Big 12 expansion. John didn't have much on the record because he indicated there really isn't much going on. He also thanked us (as in PI) for naming him the winner of our PI Premier Award as top Athletics Administrator of the Year. He also won the award in 2010, but it's only the fifth time in 14 years the AD has won.

So, here's what I gathered in my other discussions about expansion. If ACC schools want in, they better come knocking and make a convincing argument why they should be included because the conference is very happy at 10 schools. Yes, a championship game would mean more money, but it also means one more hurdle to clear. One source said the SEC champ in the future may have to survive nine conference games (and likely one quality non-con game), a championship, a national semifinal and a national championship. That's a tough road.

Also, I was told the commitment to 10 members seems to be deepening just because it feels more like a conference when you're playing all the members on an even and regular basis.

Still, if this Florida State to the Big 12 things continues to pick up steam (the President didn't rule it out, but made a tremendous effort to appease all of his audiences from the conference, fans, donors and academic types) then FSU will be hard to turn down. This is reminding people a lot of the Missouri situation in which there was such pressure from above to change conferences, eventually the president changed his stance and went along with the tide.

Also, in an interesting note that may or may not be related to possibly sharing a division with a Florida school (or schools), the K-State football staff is beginning to more actively recruit in south Florida than they have the past few years under Coach Snyder. My guess is it's unrelated to conference expansion, but still interesting timing.

i too thought the big 12 was going to equal revenue sharing?

Tier 1 and Tier 2 ARE EQUAL AMONG ALL BIG 12 SCHOOLS.  Tier 3 is fair game...every man for himself...which amounts to ONE football game per year and 3-4 basketball games (at most), and whatever other crap you can cobble together and throw on a TV set.

Effectively EQUAL.

For whatever it's worth (probably not much), the Big 12 allows considerably more than 3 or 4 basketball games for Tier 3.  In the Big 12, ESPN is Tier 1, the Big 12 Network is Tier 2, and everything else is Tier 3.  All the FSN-KC games with Ben and Stan are Tier 3 games.  This past season, K-State had 8 Tier 3 games (9 if you count the exhibition).
