A year ago today: "Is Creighton or Wichita State or Missouri State going to be our new rival?"

Today: "Florida State, Miami?  Yeah, I think they are probably good enough to join our conference"

It's rough ridin' surreal.

When our new deal gets done, we may be making $10M more annually on TV than the likes of North Carolina, Virgina Tech, and Syracuse.

rough ridin' think about that.

I have.

Wait, so I'm confused.

Haggard also played up the idea that the ACC caters to Duke and North Carolina basketball by saying -- apparently incorrectly -- the ACC surrenders third-tier TV rights to ESPN in football but retains them for basketball.

Yesterday some posters here kind of addressed this but it wasn't totally clear to me. What's the actual truth on the third-tier stuff? What exactly was misreported and what is correct?

From what I can gather they don't let the schools see the tv contracts so I don't think anyone really knows wtf they are talking about, but apparently this has been deemed incorrect.

Yep.

However, all the FSU fans have moved past that (e.g. Mizzou and Texas showing HS football games on Longhorn network).

We would have to ditch Bevo as our rival and add FSU.

Let's start thinking of cool names for the rivalry with FSU

1) AD with a statement of support for a shitty coach

2) AD saying they will do everything they can to support a dying conference

If Louisville gets in, it's because we've done some sort of cost/benefit analysis, and it turns out they are better than Clemson.

But FSU needs a travel partner if we get Louisville.  That's what Clemson is supposed to be.

I've been pretty convinced that we're going to 14 for the last few weeks.  Florida State is in.  I highly doubt we turn down Clemson.  Highly.

You have to reserve two spots, though.  I don't think anyone is going to 16 (even the SEC).  You HAVE to keep a spot open for Notre Dame, and you have to leave another one for whatever school they're going to demand come over.  That's Pitt (from what I've heard).

Inviting Pitt means WVU gets a travel partner, Clemson and FSU become travel partners, and Notre Dame becomes the centerpiece of the Eastern Division.

I mean, my God, can you imagine?

East:
Notre Dame
Florida State
Clemson
West Virginia
Pitt
Iowa State
TCU (forcing them to move east because they're new and in the best travel portion)

West:
Texas
Texas Tech
Baylor
Oklahoma
Oklahoma State
Kansas
Kansas State

9 game conference schedule: 6 division, 1 rival, 2 rotate

Rivals:
Texas/Notre Dame (to be played on Thanksgiving)
Oklahoma/Florida State
Baylor/TCU
Kansas/Pitt
Kansas State/Iowa State (I hate it, but you know it's going to happen, so we need to live with it.)
Clemson/Oklahoma State
WVU/Texas Tech (WVU wants access to Texas ever year.  TCU and Tech would give that to them.

This configuration brings back the Backyard Brawl
Notre Dame would play Florida State, Clemson, West Virginia, TCU, and Pitt every year.  Honestly, that's better than the vast majority of their schedule.  An annual game against Texas on Thanksgiving would be the rainmaker of all rainmakers.

Also, it would give Notre Dame the ability to control their Tier 3 rights and start a network with the LHN that ESPN can bundle together to get carriers.  Also, from what I've heard, we could have regional networks as well for the rest of the schools that want to lump them together (The six other East and West schools, respectively).  Therefore, the Big 12 would have four networks in our stable.

I know that Notre Dame is the longest of longshots, but Dodds and Swarbick are tight.  Bowlsby and Swarbick have a relationship from the ND/Stanford rivalry.  We're the only conference that can accommodate Notre Dame's media presence in the new environment.  If the playoff thing doesn't shake out in their favor, we are the obvious choice if FSU and Clemson jump over.  We'll all be swimming in money that makes the other conferences jealous.

It can happen, people.

IMO if that all were to happen K-State(Or possibly KU but then we wouldnt be able to play farmageddon every year) might go east instead of TCU and have KU as their rival. I just dont think the Texas Schools will get broken up, I could be wrong though.

The schools in the East are going to want more access to Texas.  That's why there will be at least one team in the East from Texas and a lot of cross-division rivals.

WVU will fight tooth and nail to be Tech's rival.

They did not give away all the 3rd tier rights to b-ball.  However, their is no "set aside xx amount of basketball games for your own 3rd tier rights".  If the networks (CBS, ESPN) want to eat up all the Duke and UNC games with their allotment to put on ESPNU and ESPN3.com, they can.  Last year Duke had 1 game fall through, UNC had 1 or 3 (they had 2 games on espn3.com, I'm not sure if they were allowed to air them locally and collect money like tier 3 games since ESPN owned the rights).  While this new deal adds 2 schools, it also adds 18 games to ESPN's rights.  The ACC is saying that with these additional 18 games per year to ESPN that Duke and UNC won't have any games fall down to tier 3 for them to sell locally.  Basically if ESPN doesn't claim your non-con games, you get them yourself as tier 3.  If they do claim all your non-con, then too bad.  I think all conference games not picked up are owned by the conference network system (like with the Big12).
I got a guy on the other line about some white walls

Its basically some sort of Freedom of information act that goes a step further and makes it nearly impossible for anyone associated with state schools to have secret meetings. That is why Clemson set up the expansion committee.

It will show precisely what Yahoo Sports already reported....that the "average" dollar amount per year is a joke.  Until 2021, ACC teams will make around $12M per year.

Chip Brown and others are reporting that a 12 team Big 12 with FSU and the likes of Clemson, would pull north of $20M per year from day 1 of the new contract.

THAT is what the ACC doesn't want getting out, but it's too late.
