Probably just the first step. BYU might have wanted to see us get to a definite, "stable" 9, or definite, "stable" 11, before hopping on.

BYU can be taken at any time. TCU needed to be snagged before they made a firm commitment to the Big East. This kind of hits them hard.

Which is good for two reasons. One, it means they're even more unstable and ripe for the picking. It will be much easier for us to grab Louisville, and it will be much easier for the SEC to extract WVU with less penalties and possibly a 2012 start date.

It's actually a smart move, don't listen to message board dumba$$es who always talk about "no value" and all that crap, these are strategic moves.

For example, adding TCU serves a firewall to thwart A&M and SEC schools in Texas. It puts another Big 12 school (obviously a BCS) school in state out recruiting against A&M and other SEC schools. It clearly indicates to recruits from Texas that they will have plenty of opportunity to play Texas based teams in a BCS conference and overnight we add a school that's been to more BCS bowl games than everyone but OU and Texas.

It's smart.

6 years...13 years. It doesn't matter. It gets us into the next TV negotiations.

People need to understand that the current contract with Fox will most likely get reworked if we go to 12. I personally hope we'll look at starting a network.

In fact, I wrote a pretty nice piece about it that's set to drop on our site at noon.

I don't think TCU will ever go to a BCS bowl again if they are in the Big 12, though. I think they make more news and have more fans because people like rooting for the little midmajor program that crashes the BCS. They will become completely irrelevant in the Big 12. They are also just horrible at basketball.
