What would Texas gain by going to the Pac-16 or ACC that they won't get here?

Two things:

1. They'd get the same deal (having to fold the LHN or strip it down) without actually having to capitulate to OU or A&M. Yes, they are petty enough to care about this.

2. UT fans, even the ones who didn't go there, think that they're a modern-day Cal or Stanford in academics and only deserve to be in a league with the "best of the best" schools. They'd rather be associated with UCLA and UNC than us or KU. They think that EMAW isn't worthy to walk on the same ground as them (despite the fact that we beat the crap out of them regularly).

They're both extremely petty motivations that could end up hurting their school in the long run via travel costs, but they'd rather submit to their "peers" in California or Chapel Hill than us unwashed plains schools. They've been specifically rumbling about the Pac 10 for years, arguably back to the SWC days.

In A&M's case, they want to dominate the best conference in the country and get away from big bro. A hot topic at the meeting was expected to be the so-called “leftover” Big 12 programs, like Kansas, Kansas State, Baylor and Iowa State, and their possible merger with Big East colleges. But with Oklahoma now hinting that the chaotic Big 12 situation may stabilize, picking up those programs appear less likely.

The Big East seems more likely to try to rebuild itself through the addition of football programs. Navy, Air Force, Temple, Central Florida, East Carolina (which has formally applied for membership), Memphis and Houston are the most plausible candidates.

I hate to say it, but he's right. Baylor thinks that they run crap outside of the two main sports and that they're a Big 12 dynasty. UTSA thought they could jump straight to C-USA from the SOUTHLAND Conference despite not having a football team until this year. My undergrad (Texas State) apparently thinks they can actually reverse 20 years of bad to mediocre football in 1-AA ball and adequately transition to FBS by hiring Dennis Franchione. Sam Houston State fans actually think they could be FBS ready in 2 years. Texas Tech and TCU are arguably the most humble of the bunch, and they're absolutely certifiable.

CU actually has a chance to be relevant in the Pac within 10 years. A&M doesn't even have much of a chance to compete for a conference title in the next 20. They're committing program seppuku.

I'd say go after Arizona Arizona State for starters after we get the big 12 on a stable foot, fire Dan, increases the buy out to a stupid number, equal revenue sharing and a big 12 network. Go on the offensive..

My ridiculous, never gonna happen, probably stupid but could be entertaining idea... promotion/relegation system like English soccer. 4 tier 1 conferences, winners play a 2 round championship,  8 tier 2 conferences, winners get promoted to tier 1 and the bottom 2 of each tier 1 relegated. Again, probably stupid, never gonna happen, but could be entertaining.
