At the time, they also thought they could pull off their own LHN. Now, they know they can't.

which gives them even less incetive to stay.

Yes, but that doesn't mean the Big 12 is not their most attractive option as of today. It also changes their negotiating tactics.

I guess we differ in that I dont' think they are negotiating.   I think they could be convinced, but I don't think their intent was to negotiate.  maybe that's a bit naive, because if they wanted to go and had an invite, they'd just go (although A&M's departure may have given everyone pause in just how they go about leaving).

then why the eff haven't they already left? And why did they agree to talk to UT last weekend?

I think one reason, if they actually want to leave, that they haven't is that the lawsuit on the school that might hurt the TV contract (aTm) would pale in comparison to the lawsuit on the school that clearly destroyed the conference and TV contract (OU).

If they want to leave, they want to make sure the conference is dissolved.

Don't forget to put: "UPDATE!" in said spill so that I see it.

Same reason A&M isn’t technically in the SEC yet.  I think the legal mess might have given them (OU, Pac) pause.

As to why they talked to UT?  I dunno. Urban Meyer took ND’s call even when he knew he was going to UF.

I went on job interviews back in the day for jobs I had absolutely no intention of taking simply because a higher monetary offer may be used in a negotiation with an employer I actually wanted to work for.

This is a fairly common tactic.

oh, for eff's sake.  ou can be all but done with the big 12, listen to a final plea from texas, and have no intention of negotiating dollars all at the same time.  from the nyt article, that's where it sounds like they were coming from, too.

Beebe has been working tirelessly behind the scenes.

Texas Christian University coach Gary Patterson has been hired as Kansas State's 34th football coach, multiple sources have confirmed to GoPowercat.com.  Patterson replaces Ron Prince, who was fired Wednesday. - Tim Fitzgerald   Nov, 7, 2008

I am getting past fretting too much. The people I speak with say the conference is going to be OK no matter what, so I guess I trust the bases are covered.

BREAKING ... KEN STARR RETURNS TO HILL: President Bill Clinton's nemesis Kenneth Starr, now president of Baylor University in Waco, Texas, is on Capitol Hill today lobbying more than two dozen members of Congress about the preservation of college sports' floundering Big 12 athletic conference, among other education issues.
A lobbyist familiar with Starr's visit, which began Wednesday and ends today, tells PI that the push is about Starr "really trying to convey that you have to have the student athletes' interests at heart first before chasing after the biggest contractual agreements" with television networks. Baylor could stand to lose significant money if the Big 12 broke up, with its marquee, cash-generating schools - Texas, Texas A&M, Kansas, Missouri and Iowa State among others - scattering elsewhere. The quality and profile of competition for the conference's smaller schools would also likely suffer with a Big 12 breakup.
Among the lawmakers Starr personally met with were many members of the Texas congressional delegation, as well as Reps. Virginia Foxx (R-N.C.), Jack Kingston (R-Ga.) and Kevin Yoder (R-Kan.).
