thought about sending out an OK_Cat Newsletter, but I decided to just put it in here.

Too much politics going on, the conference is staying as-is for the forseeable future.  The "wildcard" teams are staying put.  Good news for the wild wild cats.

i just did.  A&M is giving up on trying to get out of the conference, and they were the key to everything.  With them staying, the other south division teams are not pursuing changes.  This happened earlier in the week.

Guys, I heard something huge was about to happen that would change sports forever. Excellent source. But then it didn't happen. So, confirmed.

Guess we will just have to take your word for it since ou is as close to it's own network as KSU.

The funny thing about this is that this move by itself will pretty much put us on par with the new ACC deal kicking in next year.  By the time we renegotiate the ESPN/ABC rights in 15-16, we're going to pass them over like they're standing still.

If we're ever going to go back to 12 teams, my bet it's at the same time we plan on negotiating the rights for the new TV package with ESPN/ABC, or if we just put the remainder of that content out on the open market and see if Fox will outbid them for the rest of it.  I'd guess (just a guess) the Big 12 will float a few options out to the networks.  There will be a ten team model and a few twelve team models with various schools to see what the networks would be willing to pay.  If the twelve team models with CCG will increase the rights past what the ten team model would after you do all of the math (i.e. new 12 divided by 12 > existing ten divided by ten), we'll hear about conference additions.  If not, we're stuck at ten for a pretty long time.

Oklahoma leads the Big 12 in the Learfield Sports Directors' Cup, a yearly competition between the entire athletic programs of universities across the country.

The Sooners rank eighth overall with 431.75 points in the competition, which has been won by Stanford every year since 1995, the second year of the competition's existence. The Cardinal finished second behind North Carolina in 1993-94, the first year of the cup.

The Learfield Sports Directors' Cup is a national system that incorporates the top 10 women's and men's sports teams from each university and distributes points based on their finishes.

Last year, Texas A&M finished sixth overall, the highest placement of any team in the Big 12. Four teams (A&M, Oklahoma, Texas and Nebraska) from the league placed in the top 20 overall in 2009-10. The Aggies scored more than 1070 points to reach that finish, so as you can see, there's a lot of sports to be played in a lot of places between now and June.

Here's where the standings sit midway through the competition. The final standings are released on June 30, shortly after baseball season concludes.

(National ranking precedes team)

    * 8. Oklahoma - 431.75
    * 13. Texas - 395.00
    * 14. Oklahoma State - 391.50
    * 20. Texas A&M - 335.50
    * 26. Nebraska - 294.00
    * 31. Missouri - 270.50
    * 45. Colorado - 231.00
    * 51. Texas Tech - 205.00
    * 53. Iowa State - 186.50
    * 64. Baylor - 150.25
    * 78. Kansas State - 131.50
    * 103. Kansas - 86.50

These rankings were last cited during the realignment saga over the summer, and give a pretty good representation of an athletic program's current state across the board.

Our state is destined for a lesser league.

I feel like we're pretty good in all the sports that anybody gives half a crap about. Iowa State gets a bump from wrestling and stuff like that. KU is just sad, sucks that they'll prob end up dragging us down with them.

If we learned anything from last summer it is that football drives the bus and the number of tv sets you can deliver is huge.  A quality football program can be achieved here but we are mumped on tv's.

It's all good guys, I was just selected for the Nielson deal.  Our ratings are going to be rough ridin' amazing this year.  Also, I'm going to rally hard to bring back Arrested Development.  :cool:
