SMU fans get all ragey about TCU, but TCU a least dominates a segment of the DFW metroplex, SMU barely dominates the 12 or so city blocks that encompasses their campus.

It depends on your definition of "much" - the reality is that if SDSU and SMU were better options than UCF, BYU, UC or UH, they would have been selected.

Based purely from an athletics standpoint (non-academic), there's a fairly clear gap right now between the schools the Big 12 picked and SDSU/SMU (athletic success, fan support, market size, etc.). That said, if Yormark whiffs remains committed to expanding west and on the Pac-12 schools, SDSU is probably at the top of that list for schools that would compete in football/all sports (meaning schools not named Gonzaga).

Yeah, and most - not all - of the arguments against SMU were also applicable when the Big 12 panicked and added TCU (though TCU was obviously in much better shape football wise). When it all went down, you could have made a pretty easy argument that any of the new four schools (maybe minus Cincy) would have been better additions than TCU. But, Cincy also would have given WVU something of a rival and could have eased travel for non-olympic sports by providing a travel partner. Oh well... the result ended up being the same.

Which has been the case for every round of conference expansion, by every conference ever.

The SEC added UT and OU in desperation to remain the top conference. The Big 10 added USC and UCLA for the same reason.

The Big 12 added their 4 in a desperate attempt to stay 3rd.

The Pac 12 are adding these, and probably more later, to remain a viable conference.

I get the sentiment, but I still think UT is objectively an upgrade for any conference. The SEC wanting UT is a no brainer, I’m just not sure why UT wanted to move to SEC.

$20M goes to Fox. Also probably some reduction in 2024 TV payouts. Probably closer to a $40M-$50M windfall split 8 ways.

I'm pissed about the schools only getting $80 million, when we should have been getting twice that. I'm not going to freak out because I don't think it's coincidental that 48 hours ago we were hearing a deal is dead, for now, then this seemingly hastily came together hours after the Mandel report about the Pac 12 not being able to get a suitable media deal.

My don't settle for a penny less than owed crusade didn't come to fruition so now I have a new crusade. We can't add Colorado to this conference. They get god awful support, even worse than they did when they were here before, worse than anyone here now, worse than the 4 schools coming in. Why would we add a school with worse fan support than TCU? They don't draw dick on television, their revenue blows, they're broke, they do come with a nice media market but they don't have any footing in that market. They are Oregon State.

We're getting Arizona, I'm sure the leaker is someone in their athletic department. Ideally I'd like Utah, Oregon, and Washington to come with Arizona. Oregon and Washington still haven't gotten their Big 10 invites and now they don't have a commissioner.

I'd also take Arizona State and Stanford before I'd take Colorado.
