Honestly, I always felt like we'd be ok (like, less money, but in a a respectable conference) when all this shakes out, but that was a lot of ignoring the numbers and facts and mostly hoping/wishful thinking. As of today, I genuinely feel good about the future of the B12, for the first time in a long time. I think they need to make more moves and solidify it, and not sit back like the PAC did last summer, cause obviously other pieces can shift things again quickly.

Can't wait for a nu logo either way.

I don't get the first part of this. The numbers and facts have always indicated exactly the sentiment of your first 8 words. Doomsday scenarios always entailed submitting to the worst case scenario.

Not sure I understand this move or announcement

They're trying to get a commitment from media partners to entice schools to not panic. The Big 12 did the same thing last summer, literally days before the OU and UT announcement, ESPN and Fox said no thanks to the early negotiations. The same thing will absolutely happen here. If they do happen to get an early deal, at this point, it will be for pennies on the dollar.

A year ago when OU and UT left, the numbers and facts did not indicate this conference would be fine and continue anything similar to previous payouts. The future was not bright, it wasn't dooms day, but it damn sure wasn't bright. Especially for the short window it looked like the PAC could take the best of the rest.

Today, the opportunity is there to be in a more solidified and financially beneficial conference long term than probably any day in the last 10 or so years.

Yeah but what I'm reading is that ESPN/Fox are still in their early exclusive negotiation window so it's not like they can go to the open market. And to your point , given this likely a nonstarter with the networks why announce it publicly just to be publicly embarrassed.

I’m with you here, especially w/ UCF. Granted if we could get a pod of: WVU, Pitt, L’Ville, Cincy, VT or something like that, I’d be down for an Appalachia Pod.

You’d have the Western Pod, Plains/Midwest Pod and the Appalachian Pod w/ a wildcard in our own little playoff.

I’d still rather be a BigPac tho, which I think in time could (not would) lure schools like NU, MU and OU back. Dax posted a very similar idea earlier.

They are in this thread. There were media firms that had the potential payout as low as $25 million per school per year, around where we are now minus the tier 3 rights, to as high as $50 million per school. If you're reading people like Dennis Dodd and Stu Mandel, yeah there was some bleak stuff there. It was also known very early on that we weren't losing our autonomous status with the NCAA. If you recall we were still also set for a playoff autobid, after UT and OU left, until the alliance started crying about the 12 team playoff
