K-State will never win an NC. That’s not a K-State thing. That’s a everyone outside 15ish schools thing. With the internet making easy for anyone to be found, there aren’t nearly as many DITR to uncover. No school outside of 12-15 schools have the lines, team speed or depth to win 2 in the playoffs.
I want a 12-team playoff with home first round games because I want to host a playoff game. I want that experience. Expecting anything more than that is just setting myself up for disappointment. I don’t think that’s small-time K-State thinking either. I’ve watched ND, Washington, & Michigan St get boat raced in semis with generational teams.
Yeah honestly the CFP makes it harder for KSU, not easier. Embrace the 1991 model. CU, Washington, BYU, Georgia Tech were getting nattys back then.
But, I (possibly ignorantly) view it similarly to the NCAA tourney. It's just sooooo much more fun when you're in, even if you don't stand a chance. But an upset or a magical little run gives all the feels
I wonder if there could be some study done to show a 6 or more team playoff (w/ auto bids) could help with some attendance issues around college football? Probably wouldn't matter since it's all TV $$, but who knows. Expansion would give 2 or even 3-4 loss teams something to play for deep into the season, giving us a lot more important games and put more pressure on Conference Champ games. Also, I just think about a team like our 2003 squad, playing their best ball in December, not early in the year (injuries and depth issues will obviously do that do middle-bottom tier programs)
