If it's true, personally, it means one of two things:

1 (Optimistic): The networks promise to make us whole during the next round of negotiations and continue paying us competitively if we choose not to drain them now.

2 (Pessimistic): The networks told us they'd pay us a little over a million a year, we'll take it and like it, or they will tell us to pound sand in eight years.

Even under the optimistic scenario, it is an incredibly stupid "deal" to take because it is not a deal at all.  "Oh, ok networks, we'll get rid of this provision that's beneficial to us because you'll be nice to us in 8 years."

So...ESPN potentially saved anywhere from $50 - $120 million for the low cost of $10mil?  (based on $25-30mil per school with an estimated 2 - 4 additional schools).  And if that's a total amount, that would be $1mil per current school over 8 years.... $125k per year.  Bowlsby better be right.

The east division of New Mexico, CSU, Air Force, Wyoming and us 4 will be a real pillow fight every year.

I doubt that we'll see the Big 12 schools left out of the P4 join the AAC or MWC.  If KSU (and others) are left behind, look for the Big 12 remnants to become the BOR conference by inviting the most appealing programs from the G5. 

This allows schools that are serious about athletics (like Boise St) ditch schools not serious about athletics (like San Jose St) and creates separation from teams with a market (like CSU (Denver)) from schools without a market (like Wyoming (Wyoming's entire population < Denver)).

Bowlsby's statement tells me all I need to know about the situation.  If the negotiations are "still on-going," we have lost all f'n leverage by our announcement last week that we were not going to expand.  We would anybody pay anything to buy out a pro-ratio clause when the Big 12 has already announced that they are not going to expand?  The timing of this doesn't make sense to me at all.  If the conference was negotiating a buy-out of the pro-rata clause, you get that contract signed in blood before you announce anything regarding expansion.  I don't get it.

I'm not sure where that rumor is coming from, but I can see 5 million if you extend the GOR and add a conference title game.

The conference title game was going to be about $2-3 million per team, per year anyway. 

I don't think they're going to give us money just to not expand.  They want more guaranteed inventory in return.  I assumed the GOR extension would be to 2030 to coincide with the end of the LHN agreement.

I don't want the Big 12 to fail.  I'd like to see the Big 12 expand and invite CSU.  It makes sense for both schools to be in the same conference from geographic and academic standpoints.  I also have a lot of family in the KC area.
