I enjoy working through the "Best of the Rest" Conference scenarios and thinking about what the good games and good road trips would be.   It's certainly something that Too Cool for Schoolers couldn't handle, so I won't be sharing, but it's quite fun.   I'm sure when it happens the pretend K-State fans will all be jumping off the bandwagon, probably spending their days buying new styles of SKC scarfs and hoping the Royals put out some new uni's, and telling themselves this is going to be the year the Chiefs win the Super Bowl while wondering if KC will ever get an NBA team.

I can't speak for others, but not being emotionally invested in the Cats has been really positive for me.  I've spent time focusing on my young family and pursuing my own goals and aspirations (not the goals and aspirations of others).  It's much more enriching to pursue something myself, and much more rewarding to achieve something myself, than to merely spectate and cheer and hope.  It's also worlds more real.

I know it's kind of weird and all, but it's possible to be a fan and not let it be all consuming.   I mean, we've got people on this board who actually live and die with professional sports, can you believe that EMO?   Can't think of anything that's more dumb, so your words are probably hitting home with them right now.

I think the real lesson here is that we should all start weaning ourselves off of KSU sports, and college sport in general, before 2024.

I have already started the process subconsciously.  By 2020, I'd wager that I won't give two shits.

Assuming BU gets the boot.  That is a damn good conference.  Play 6 division games, one protected rival, and then two other cross division games.  Add some major markets.  Nobody on an island.  Spans three time zones across middle America, which helps our tv partners. Everybody gets some games in Texas.  Tech doesn't get to play UT every year, but you have to break a few eggs.

I hope so, because no matter what happens, the Big 12 probably isn't going to exist in 2023 and may be gone before then. 


Best to start working on where K-State will land then spending any energy on adding members.  Nothing short of say; Arkansas, Clemson, FSU, the Arizona Schools or the former Big 12 schools wanting to come back is worth it and that's likely never going to happen for too many reasons list.

ya, If OU & Texas leaving is inevitable I would rather spend the next 7 years building up large state schools like CSU or NMU that might have the alumni and political support to grow into a true P5 instead of commuter schools that are one bad hire from irrelevance. 

IMO only the SEC and Big 10 will offer Texas and OU more revenue but I fear OU won't be happy at 2nd most revenue in the Big 12 but trailing half the SEC and a couple of Big 10 teams so maybe acting now on the hopes the teams that are added can help what is left get legit Tier 1 & 2 deals.

Rather than worry about building up other schools, I vote we focus on building up ourselves. If armageddon does come to pass, then that is when we can look for some large state schools to associate with. Nothing UNM does over the next eight years is going to impact their national reputation. They will not be a tv draw, they will not be a recruiting hotbed, they will not develop a large following. An eight year head start will do nothing for them. And it would likely end up hurting us because of the weakened schedules we'd have due to playing all the time.

We have ten schools on our league, nine of which care about football. Let's focus on making our football product the best it can possibly be for those nine schools. Maybe a miracle will happen and the conf will somehow survive. If not, at least we'll have the memories of the good years to hang on to while we slowly fade into the sunset.

Being proactive by inviting CSU and UNM now is like putting a gun to our temple and pulling the trigger. It's not a 100% death sentence because maybe the pistol misfires or something, but yeah, we can all see how that will turn out.

Stop talking about how we are psychologically disadvantaged. Stop talking about how we need a conf network. Stand pat at 10 and disband the expansion committee.
