playing every team in your conference with no championship game >>> adding crappy mid majors to get a championship game

Wasn't OU the team bitching about how their fans don't like their slate of home games now?  How does adding freaking Houston help that?  Makes no sense.

I think it is pretty obvious that Boren wants a Big 12 network, which explains why Houston and Cincy are the targets.  Conference networks are going to become obsolete eventually, but if we can make some bucks before then I say "whatever, let's do it."  OU must be appeased, for conference stability.  In any event, I think 12 is much better than 10.  Would love to go back to divisions, which is good for K-State and much more entertaining.

Conference networks will be obsolete in how we look at them today, but that doesn't mean bundled content distributed in other ways won't generate money in the future.

Throwing our rights in with OU and the rest of the conference is a good thing for us.  If OU wants it, and it seems like they do, we shouldn't oppose it.  We should be asking where we sign.

Taking these crap schools is akin to marrying a girl you don't find attractive or particularly interesting just because she's there and you'll save on some taxes. Don't worry about the future kids, child support,  and alimony you'll pay for in the future.

Or, you can just live alone in your apartment the rest of your life, waiting for that pin-up girl to text you.

Nothing gets me fired up more than thinking about the mighty Houston Bobcats coming into BSFS once every 4 years!
How about every other?

I can see OU and Texas getting OSU, BU, TT and TCU on board by doing a North/South split.  So get ready for a steady diet of Cougs, Bearcats, & Moutaineers  :Yuck:.  Silver-lining- if OU and UT are on our same rotation we can have a shot at what Iowa's doing every 2 years!

The division split is going to work in our favor.  Either they do North/South, which will we dominate.  OR they do some other split, which means our protected rival game will be against KU, which gives us an automatic edge against our division mates.  Either way, we benefit from divisions.

Back to eight conference games.  One more opportunity for OU to schedule home games, or marquee games, or both.

If we get back to 12, we should schedule some pud fcs school at the end of our schedule like what the SEC does. Rest some players, you know?!

That's a scary thought. The every year teams could be KU, ISU, and three WGAF randos.

Yeah, and they probably would be. It would be much worse than the old Big 12 North.

Mizzou has had a shot every year in the SEC by playing in the poor division. I'm all for it. We have a shot to catch lightening in a bottle every year. It's perfect!

People keep thinking that you need a North/South split, but I doubt that would be what ends up happening.  You need competitive balance.

People also think we'd go back to the model where we do this even steven rotation every two years, but that's not a good method.  No other 12 team conference does that, and I doubt we would either.

You can actually creatively schedule and cobble together an attractive schedule.  Also, the reduction of a conference game means that you can schedule some more wins and boost the middle of your conference as opposed to making everyone go 7-5 outside of a couple of schools.

My proposed split is:

West: UT, Tech, OU, OSU, KU, KSU (Keeps most established rivalries together, and keeps 4 of original Big 8 together)
East: BU, TCU, Houston, ISU, Cincy WVU (Keeps BU/TCU together, adds Houston for additional Texas potential rivalries, and Cincy/WVU)

Then you do a cross-divisional protected game to try and clean up any rivalries you missed, or if not rivalries, long standing series:

Texas - Baylor (They've played 107 times)
Tech - TCU (There used to be a Saddle Trophy; they should bring that back.  Was called the West Texas Championship)
OU - WVU (Relatively new, but it's been heated since WVU joined)
KSU - ISU (Farmageddon)
KU - Cincy (Basketball)
OSU - Houston (OSU may want more Texas exposure)

Then for the final two games, you can rotate, or you can do what the Pac-12 does and make Texas play either TCU or Houston like they make the California schools play each other every year.

We were literally the only conference that did an even rotation.  The SEC just has the division games + protected game + whatever they feel like.  The Pac has weird rotations, and so does the Big Ten.  You don't have to do it that way.

Our schedule would be 4 non-con + Texas/OU/OSU/Tech/KU/ISU/+ games of either BU, TCU, UH, Cincy, or WVU.  That's honestly not that different than what we have now.  OU would have UT/Tech/KSU/KU/OSU/WVU + BU, TCU, UH, Cincy or ISU.  Again, not much of a change.

Texas would have something that looked like OU/OSU/KSU/KU/BU/TCU or UH/WVU or Cincy or ISU.  Again, probably better since they'd probably avoid ISU.

People just need to get creative.  It can work, and it can work well.  This year, if we had the above schedule, you could have an 11-1 OU meeting an 11-1 BU or TCU in Dallas for the Big 12 title game.  That would have easily been a play in and extremely entertaining.

And, if we got an extra non-con game back, maybe we could push for some of the rivalry games to get scheduled on an annual basis like the SEC does with UF/FSU, Clemson/USC, Kentucky/Louisville, Georgia/GT,etc.  We could push for UT/A&M to play on Thanksgiving again.  We could get the Backyard Brawl back.  KU and Mizzou can play.  There's a lot you can do.

I don't want a CCG. :dunno:

me neither
I would, if it meant a ten team conference tie breaker.  Like us in "12 w/ OU or last year with Baylor & TCU.  Otherwise no.

Don't know if this is what you meant, but I think it would be genius if the Big 12 could have a conditional CCG. If two or more teams have the same conference record, take the top two per the current rules and have them play a championship game.

That would give 1 loss teams a chance to boost their resume for the CFP and it avoids a redo game if any team makes it through unscathed.

Do you think that is most likely to happen or is that just what you want to happen? I think we most likely end up in a division with KU, ISU, WVU, and Cincinatti. Probably Houston, too. None of the Texas schools are going to want to be separated from UT. We might get OSU if we allow for a cross-division rivalry. That only works for me if our cross-division rival is Texas. I really don't want to go back to only playing games in Austin once every 4 years.

I think I suggested this last year. Make it completely optional.

Gross. Also there wouldn't be a coach, ad, or up in the country that would vote to do that.

Why not? Some want a CCG, some don't. How can you say no one would want a CCG that happens when it benefits the Big 12's best team and doesn't happen when it doesn't?

I meant to say they could do it like baseball playoffs.
