It is the CBS number that I think is surprising for just their 3rd best game. I have seen speculation that they will also be picking up the bulk of the basketball if ESPN is totally out.

Keep in mind that ESPN paid less than that for the SECs top game of the week just a couple years ago.

I think they didn't want to deal with ESPN, since they gave ESPN a take it or leave it offer of $380M for the third pick.  I'm sure Fox had their hand in it.  Also, they are at $1.2B. for the top 3 games and all the other media rights are only predicted to bring another $300M.  You would think there would be more value in all the other games, which include all FB, BB, Baseball, and other sports.  Shows how valuable the top teams in the conference are; so the 50% loss for the Big XII and PAC 12 from losing their top teams sounds very reasonable.

No disrespect to Zach but he's a football guy out of his lane here, happens a lot with realignment and TV deals. I just heard a sports business podcast yesterday that talked about this and the industry insight is that CBS didn't have a shot at winning that SEC package, they didn't even try to keep it. ESPN and the SEC both wanted ESPN to have the package. The SEC asked CBS for some exorbitant amount of money before they opened the bid. The SEC thought, and they were correct, that CBS way underpaid for their package, for years and the SEC was pissed about it.

You can make the argument that we reached and exceeded that long ago. There is no functional need for waterfalls and barbershops in what used to be called locker rooms. Little old Kansas State just built an entire indoor football practice facility simply because their current one is too far away, it will be a whole 400 yards closer.

As long as sports are the best rated live TV events, they'll be networks paying exorbitant amounts of money for the programming. The dollar amounts aren't getting smaller in any of our lifetimes.

There is a functional need for K-State Athletics to completely extricate itself from Ahearn Fieldhouse.   For those that don't know, K-State Athletics does not fully control Ahearn Fieldhouse, so "we should just renovate Ahearn" isn't as easy as building new facilities funded by K-State athletics in the athletic complex. 

By leaving Ahearn, 2 sports need new facilities.   Which is why Gene has been talking about the conversion of the old football indoor to an indoor track facility more and more lately.

You know what ... I've racked my brain to see if I've done anything wrong.  Again, the only time I was negative really was when I was ticked off about a couple of the promotional events they had like Hot Dog Gate and Popcorn Gate ... when the athletic department completely screwed it up, and it was 1981 KSU athletics all over again ... no excuse for that from a $40 Million dollar plus enterprise, and not when I send relatives to one of those events because they were having a tough time and needed a night out for themselves and their kids and it was a complete disappointment for them, basically money just flushed right down the Toilet and Weiser basically doesn't give a $hit.

Again, other then that, I can't think of anything.   That's why when I tell my family or close friends about this, they just laugh at the absudity.
