Another thing about Colorado is that they had people publicly expressing dissatisfaction with the Pac 12 even *before* USC/UCLA.

Now, their Board of Regents keeps scheduling new meetings every week or two.

The smoke I am looking for is when a credible source reports that the PAC had TV numbers from ESPN. That will be the first thing we hear about. The PAC is still in their 30 day exclusive negotiation window with ESPN and Fox which should end first week of Aug. I will be very surprised if we hear anything before then.

I agree with the logic that if two more schools leave the PAC, any two schools, the others will scramble.  However, might be smart for Oregon and Washington to just stick around and rule a conference like kings.

I know this belongs in the everyone hates us thread.  But there’s still a decided angle from media types with national stages to paint the B12 as dead man walking. 

Coupled with a general lack of understanding of how this all this conference business works . . . married to total lack of knowledge regarding the details and nuances of the business of college athletics in general.

I don't think many people are forming hypotheses about what will happen based on random twitter dudes with "sources." I think they're mostly relying on reasonable estimates about what future conference payouts will likely be. And it's not crazy to think that people would have some kind of sense for this. We've been at this stuff for over a decade.

It also sounds like UO/UW would be fine with staying and holding all the power in a mash unit PAC, to get uneven revenue sharing from all the crap teams that are left. Do that until they get an invite (if they ever do) to the BIG or wherever.

But, if even one or two officially announce a move to the Big 12, it will be a crap show of movement that follows.

I'm just hoping we can at least get a CU to Big12 announcement before the PAC gets SDSU and Boise or something to get back to 12.

Any idea what the unequal revenue sharing looks like for the non UW/UO schools?  I have to wonder how they could keep the four corners from just moving to the Big 12 if they are going to get the shaft in revenue in a contract that doesn’t have Los Angeles market.

That certainly might be an intent at some point, but there's a lot to happen between now and then, namely getting enough athletic directors and university presidents, in the two conferences least likely to have the power brokers actually pay students athletes, to agree to come off their cash.

That's what we kinda have now, but at some point, in the next 10 years, the CFP will formally take over running, to an extent, FBS football.

I don't see congress actually doing anything but I could see where the NLRB rules that college athletes are employees and then they form a union to collectively bargain with either the schools or conferences. 

I think this could happen today if there were an organizing force pushing to make this happen.

If they are officially recognized as an employee and form unions the NCAA rules around paying players become void instantly

If student athletes become university employees, does all their scholarship benefits become taxable?

People keep saying that's unknown, but it's seems very obviously that they wouldn't. Every university is filled with thousands of students on scholarship who are also university employees and their scholarships aren't taxable, I don't know why this would be different for athletes.
