That's right! They stay on the ship until it sinks and then swim to the mountain (west) shore.

thoughts on getting the a&m people on the phone and telling them that they can have 20% of our yearly cut if they take us to the sec w/ them.  :dunno:

No brainer.  We'll still double our haul.  SEC renegotiates TV deal if it expands.

The rest of the SEC would not go for A&M getting an additional 20% that they do not get.

we just pay them under the table at the end of the year or pay them in q bucks or giftcards or something. maybe use paypal. maybe give them 20% of nbaf. don't know the exact logistics of this operation, but we need to get on this. don't let any of the other (current big12 or current sec) schools find out either.

Get Bob Krause on the phone right fracking now!

maybe have ft riley make a couple of phone calls on our behalf. would this help? are they army? don't know. i see them in uniforms and stuff on tv sometimes. can't hurt. send tanks??? would tanks help? does anybody know if we can get ft riley to give a&m one tank a year whether this would help?

Just cause I'm bored, if we went to the big east with ku and mu (don't care about isu, prolly better to grab memphis):

- basketball: Big East could basically own big Monday, two games, back to back on glorious espn hd.  Split into two division like football with some interleage play, play East tournament and West tournament in different locals, winner of each tourney plays in MSG for the official conf tourney championship.

 - football: same as big 12, two divisions, some interleague play, get on tv somehow, nice little championship game.

you know there's totally gotta be some hillbilly iowa st fan that just logged onto their hillbilly iowa state message board and posted...Just cause I'm bored, if we went to the big east with ku and mu (don't care about ksu, prolly better to grab memphis):

so are you making fun of me because I'm bored or because it was a stupid post?

neither. just pointed out the hilarity of us already just absolutely shunning iowa state and baylor in future possible scenarios like we're way to good for them. i'm just sure there are iowa state people having the same convos and talking about leaving us out of their super cool new confy. it's just funny.

we are too cool for the baptists and the clones.

kinda feel like we are at worst equal to tech also.  they might be better positioned in that they could piggyback texas, but as a pure free agent they dont offer much.

Since I have to caveat everything for SOME resident affirmers and validators, again I have said for a long time KSU could be in real trouble when conference realignment came around.

But . . . I am absolutely   at the Tardville minions who have been convinced for years that ku had absolutely nothing to worry about . . . now they're sweating bullets hoping Lew can somehow wedge them in some place since they are clearly on the bubble if the Big 12 falls apart, which it likely will.

it is funny.  No question KU is higher up the food chain, but it's only one notch.  People don't realize what a miracle it's been for a state like Kansas to have 2 high major atheletic programs to this point.

lol.

All the schools the SEC really wants are better at everything the SEC schools really care about than ku is . . . cue, but they want to improve their basketball image.   Well, the SEC has won 3 National Titles in Basketball in the last 12 years.   This is all going towards the day when the BCS Bowls get tossed out the window, and somebody gets a clue and realizes that a College Football PLayoff can be parlayed into a TV payoff that dwarfs the NCAA tourney.

Is there any way a 20 team Big East basketball conference could split into two allied 10-team "mini-conferences" rather than divisions, allowing for 2 automatic bids into the Big Dance?

The 20-team Big East that's been kicked around here probably gets 8-ish bids reliably year in and year out and 10-ish in a good year.  What's the point of worrying about a 2nd automatic bid?

It would allow for an extra team that is not going to make the tournament to have a shot at getting into the dance, turning 8 bids into 9 or 10. :dunno:

Most years it would not matter, but it's best to give yourself as many shots as possible. If there were two seperate tournaments with only 8 teams each, it wouldn't be so unlikely for some upsets to happen.

LOL - You do realize that an extra automatic bid just means one less at-large.  Don't you?

 I suppose you think that every conference in the NCAA plays a basketball tournament just to crown a champion? It doesn't matter anyway. If we go to the Big East, it will get raided, and if we go to the MWC, there probably won't be enough teams.

I hope that those who are saying run to the MWC are ready to increase their Ahearn Donations dramatically.  Because that's what it's going to take to overcome the $4 to $7 million dollar hit that K-State will take based on TV revenue, non automatic BCS bid for the conference and bad bowl tie-ins.

Based on todays' numbers that's a 10% to 20% drop in K-State's athletic budget.

Goodbye Frank . . . hello SLTH, kiss any chance of landing Gary Patterson or any coach like him goodbye.

i'm not increasing crap.
those of you who have been chugging the koolaid need to realize that we've been midmajor since before we joined the b12.  our teams have been acting like it for the past 20+ years, now it's time that our fans started to.

Well K-State may have been acting like a mid major from a dumbass management perspective, but K-State outspends most mid majors by $10 to $15 million dollars a year on athletics and in most cases less than 50% of that spending gap comes from bowl revenue/tv revenue.   The majority of that gap is generated by ticket sales and contributions.   Setting some the outliers aside, if K-State is back up in the $11 to $12 million dollar per year contribution range, that is more than many major conference schools get per year in contributions and most mid majors are 1/3 of that at best.   The only "mid major" that is up with K-State on expenditures that I've seen is TCU.    So yeah, I completely agree that from a management perspective K-State has been extremely amateurish, but I am not with you on the rest.

I'm saying that as we officially assume the role of a mid major, our contributions should do the same.
Our university and athletic dept management has been mid major.
Our teams, for the most part, have been mid major (sometimes, at best).
The only puzzle piece that hasn't been mid major is our fanbase ->  we've convinced ourselves that we belong with the big boys so we support our team/university as best we can, hence the donations/contribution levels that you pointed out.

You play the "too cool for school" role a little too hard clams . . . I understand though.

And yeah, we take the mid major, contributions stay the same we take a $4 to $7 million dollar hit . . . and even though you won't admit it you'll be pissed off when we Frank is gone and 2 SLTH nobodies are coaching football and basketball.

life will be so much easier when we're done trying to be something that we're not.

Lets see.  The Big 12 get $10MM from CU & $10MM from NU for leaving. UT & OU in the Big 12 get to keep the sweet TV revenue sharing deal if the Big 12 stays in tact.  What happens to the current TV contacts if NU & Cu leave the conference?  I would guess they could be terminated/renegotiated.  Potential for a big TV deal for the Big 12 with the Fox contract that expires soon and termination of the other contract due to schools leaving.  Add Houston, Boise St, BYU, Utah, ND, & Louisville (Cinci if MU leaves) to the remaining 10 Big 12 schools and the  potential for a huge TV deal gets greater.

Watch out mother frackers, Beebe/Dodds are about to construct a monster.

Do NU and CU get to share the revenue even though they are headed out. Thought I read they forfeit revenue once they announce their intention to leave.   :dunno:

KSUBrian, what's your position on which conference we should go to when/if the Big 12 collapses?  MWC will still allow for some long road trips by car where you could pound beers out of a cooler on the passenger seat.  You'd have to fly to the Big East towns, but could likely get hammered on the plane and then rent a car and drive to the hotel or wherever.  :dunno:

That shouldn't be news to anybody.  I'd argue that there's a hell of a lot more than 20 pretenders.  There's about a dozen or so elites, the rest are just their fundraising pawns.  The PAC 10 didn't invite CU into their conference for the betterment of CU.
