LOL at anyone who thinks KU is going to the Big 10. Just shut up.

I think that it would be funny as hell.  They would move up a peg in football (still bottom third) and move down a peg in basketball (still top third).  So they win a few more football games a year and lose several more games in basketball each year.  They could probably still win the conference every once in a while, but Izzo would clownsuit Self more often than not.  I can't believe KU fans actually want that to happen.  LOL.

I think I already get the BTN in KC on TWC

but I don't really like mediocre football so I've never actually watched it

It's on the basic DirecTV package, too. You'd think the east coast would already have it.
I live in Baltimore and have Dish Network.  Ironically, the big 10 Network was recently replaced on the channel lineup by the PAC12 Network.

I'm sure the neutral fan would much rather have the Pac 12 Network. The teams are far more relevant.

For all the posters saying they hope KU goes to the big 10, or they think it would be funny, or it won't impact KSU in the slightest.....  Stop.  you may be fooling yourselves, but not fooling anybody else.

There would be a pretty big impact if we stop playing them. I would not like that.

Athletically, they would be making less money than they do in the Big 12. Academically, their graduate program would get better, but I just don't see how that impacts K-State at all.

I think it had already surpassed this once with the coal aggie invasion...or was it the pig aggy invasion?  I can't remember.
Otherwise, I blame the Mayans.

Weaker nonconference schedules in football and status quo for our grad school? I think we will manage. What people are making a choice between KU and K-State when choosing a grad school?

KUs grad schools will always be garbage regardless of conference affiliation.

Ya, the grad school thing is a non-issue.  Is there a grad school in which they really compete for applicants?  Not many I think.  It really has nothing to do the business of conference re-alignment.  It's a form of litmus test for some factions in the Big Ten, but once you pass a threshold it doesn't factor in.

I'd wager that Delaney knew that Nebraska was going to lose their AAU status, and I also bet that Delaney talked up their AAU status when pitching the idea internally in the Big 10.

hasn't the signing of Rutgers shown us that the big 10 can see past the "interest" of the school in the media and towards the way in which it can distribute itself in a highly populated area (i.e. the synergy or whatever with the YES network).  I'm sure that whatever local-ish sports tier for pro sports in boston will eventually have the BTN (if it doesn't already) and even if you only get 10% interest in the greater boston area, that's 10% of like 6M, which would be like every single person in KC having the BTN.

The Rutgers thing is completely different, & has been explained in this thread Newscorp who owns the Big 10 Network just bought the YES Network.  The Network is already in Boston.  Adding BC would add minimal interest to the network.  BC does not do numbers good enough in Boston to impress advertisers.  KU would absolutely be better for the Big 10 in that regard than BC.  I've lived in both places and KU does much better raw numbers in KC than BC does in Boston and it isn't even close.

Yeah, but I think it’s not only just the “interest” from that specific school in the population base, but also the alumni and “interest” from existing schools in that base.  So, big 10 grads in boston.  Sure, BC isn’t a draw, but what happens when Michigan, Ohio State, and Penn State come in?  Does that drive the numbers higher and if so, then I assume they can charge rates (both the BTN rates and advertising on BTN) higher.

You could be right, dunno.  I never thought Boston was that kind of town though.  ND doesn't do great on television there either, of course when I lived there ND sucked.

have it on cox in MHK

It's not whether you have the BTN.  It's how much you pay for it. Subscribers that live in the Big Ten market areas pay a much higher rate than subscribers that are not in the Big Ten market areas.  That's why Rutgers was so valuable to them.  Most of the people in New Jersey likely already had the BTN, but now the BTN will be able to quadruple (or more) the rates they charge in that state.  The people in New Jersey don't get anything new or different... they just get to pay more for it.

New Jersey has roughly 8.8 million people.  At an average of 3.5 people per household, there are roughly 2.5 million households in that state.  Assume that every one of them is a cable/satellite subscriber and that every one of them already have BTN in their channel lineup.  Instead of charging $0.10 per month per household, the Big Ten will now be able to charge $0.50 per month per household or more.  It doesn't matter how many balls Rutgers sucks, the Big Ten conference will get a ton of money from the BTN simply by bringing Rutgers into the fold.

This is one of the reasons why people are talking about the idea of the Big Ten expanding beyond 16.  Why not 18? or 20? or more?  As long as they keep adding schools in high population areas, they keep growing their revenue from the network.

As for KU, does the state of KS and the KC metro area qualify as "high population"? Doubtful.  Especially if the Big Ten could simply add Mizzou and get the KC area plus St Louis and the rest of the much more highly populated state of Missouri.  I admit, the thought of this makes me laugh.  KU fans act so giddy about the interest from the Big Ten, so for them to have to watch their bitter rival get 'their' spot... boy, I don't know.  Would be good for an epic meltdown or two.

This is why I am surprised that they don't target Syracuse.  Sure, Syracuse isn't anywhere near NYC, but it is in the same state, and that's all that matters.  Syracuse was once an AAU school, just like NUBB, so I don't think it's that far fetched.

The Big 10 is the douche that sleeps with girls by convincing them that he really wants a long term relationship with them. The after he gets what he wants, you never hear from him again. You find out a week later he left you for a hotter girl.

Well we all saw them do it to Mizzou. Us and KU joined and laughed in Mizzou's face. Mizzou was heartbroken. Now the Big 10 does it to KU. At this point it's like, what'd you think was going to happen, you know? Hard to have sympathy for them in this debacle.

But....but....He's so charming and he gave Rutgers and Maryland a Rose last week! I heard he still has two more left!!! I know he said he's looking for a southern belle but I can tell him I like country music!

The Big 10 is also the douche who despite being a douche, is a commercial insurance producer who basically just plays golf and makes like $800K per year, despite getting barely a 3.0 in marketing and mass comm.

He's pretty rough ridin' happy.

Saying that the Big 10 is the richest conference is a lot like saying that the SEC is the toughest conference.  It just doesn't mean a hell of a lot.
