I would imagine Texas will rotate Tech into their Thanksgiving lineup as well.

Yeah, probably.  Just too lazy to do that three way rotation.

If we wanted to rotate a home game against ISU, KU, and OSU every year on Thanksgiving, I'm sure the Big 12 would accommodate us, too. All of those games would be played in front of about 2,000 people.

The prelim schedule for next year has it as Tech.

So what are our legitimate expansion options at this point? I'd have to think of them as follows (most realistic to least):

Texas State
Florida State
Clemson
Lonely cardinal sitting at window University
Virginia Tech
NC State
Georgia Tech

we are at a point in time with texas where texas could say "hey we want to ____________" and a certain percentage of the population would have a problem with it.

"hey we want to play a game on thanksgiving every year."  :shakesfist:

"hey we want to keep the league at 10."  :shakesfist:

This may be naive, but wouldn't TCU/BAY/TECH have to sign off on agreeing to go to UT every year and never getting a home game vs their biggest rival?

I'd think that if they really want to have a home game every Thanksgiving...if it's going to be a conference opponent, it HAS to rotate between at least 3.

I think their real plan may be to get a Thanksgiving game vs A&M or ARK every year (or a rotation of those 2)..I don't think they could make it work from a scheduling perspective if the BXII expands back to division format.

Another thing...they do realize the most popluar sports team in Texas also plays a home game every year on that day, right?  :dunno: Might not be the best idea to go head to head with the states biggest draw

I don't think it would be as hard as you make it sound.  I don't think Tech, TCU, or Baylor would have an issue with being asked "Hey, do you want to play on national TV every 2-3 years as the lone college game on a day that no one works?  The only down side is the other years you either have a bye Thanksgiving week, the week before, or alternate who you play on the Saturday after Thanksgiving amongst yourselves."

Also, the Cowboys game is always at 3:00ish and the UT game is at night.  This year the Cowboys game is at 3:15 and the UT game is at 6:30.  I would think that Cowboys game would be a plus.  They could easily say "The entire state of Texas is going to watch the Cowboys game, and when it's over they'll say 'Switch it over to the Texas-XXXX game.'"

UT and OU playing on a neutral site every year is a bigger competitive advantage than anything.

And yeah, I would bend over for the opportunity to play @UT on Thanksgiving every two years. I'm sure the other Texas teams will, too.

I'd enjoy it.   :dunno:

Get the week before off, and you'd have ten days before Texas, ten days after Texas.

Seems like a pretty good deal.

IF there is a rotation...if they just choose TCU (for example), TCU would never get TEX at home...which is why I said they'd need to do a rotation as opposed to having a standing conference opponent

Pretty sure the Lions/Cowboys flip timeslots every year...didn't research it, just seems that is how it works...ether way, you're right...except that studies show approximately 84% of the country is in a meat coma on Thanksgiving by 6:15 pm, and now the other 16% will be at Wal-Mart

I don't think OU and OSU are even interested in the SEC at this point. WHy would they? FOr a couple million more per year?

If they do flip spots, that's not a big deal because the Lions game this year is at noon.  They would go head-to-head with an NFL game, but I don't think Tech, Baylor, or TCU would be too worried about eyeballs in the state of Texas watching the Jets/Patriots on NFL Network instead of a game against UT.

Odds of how the Texas thing will work out:

Year 1 - @TCU, Baylor at home
Year 2 - @Baylor, TCU at home
Year 3 - @TCU, Baylor at home
Year 4 - @ Baylor, TCU at home

People do realize that anytime the ND/USC game is played in LA, it's Thanksgiving, but when it's at ND, the game is played in October.

But I'm sure this gives USC a tremendous advantage.

ND/USC played on christmas day in die hard 1.  blows your theory all to hell i guess.

 at thinking the grant of rights is a real barrier to Texas.  I mean it was a real barrier to A&M and Mizzou.  It was a real barrier to Maryland.
A&M, MU, & Maryland were never subject to a grant of rights. Exit fees only.
The point is that the GoR situation was already taking shape but it didn't matter. 2 teams left directly because of small dick syndrome, 1 left to smoke weed with their bros, and one left just to say they could even if it mean biting a pillow.  Grant of rights, huge buyouts don't mean crap in these schemes.  They will be litigated, reduced, or voided either by mutual agreement or by the courts in many cases.
