this won't be the pinstripe bowl.  this will be a top 4 team playing a top 4 team to see who gets to play for a NC.  it will be advertised to rough ridin' death and talked about on ESPN daily for a solid month leading up to it.  yes, people will attend.

Hey great, the new "playoff" still renders most of the bowls even the "majors" utterly meaningless unless it's their year to host a semi-final.

They could come up with a process that makes all the major bowls meaningful football games.

The Sugar and Fiesta could be completely effed in the "bidding process" . . . which wouldn't bother me that much, it just basically re-affirms that a playoff system that will generate additional millions every year well above the cumulative bowl payouts is the way to go and select bowls should be incorporated into that process. 

The new system is just slightly less dumbass than the old one.

As has been said, just bag the whole things, go back to the traditional tie-ins, have no "playoff" and let everybody argue about it all year.

I agree with Dax that the playoff renders all non-playoff bowls even more meaningless. 

Which is why our new "Champions Bowl" is an even sweeter deal for the Big 12 and SEC.  It has no "middleman" bowl bureaucracy siphon off cash, and will be in a position to pay the Big 12 and SEC more money than an meaningless non-playoff bowl like the Sugar or Fiesta.

amazing.  sounds like the Champions Bowl will be part of it.  and the Cotton.  meaning the SEC and Big 12 bowls would have 2 tie-ins to the playoff outside of the original BCS connections (Sugar/Fiesta)

The sites of those games will rotate among the four current BCS bowls - Rose, Orange, Fiesta and Sugar - and two more to be determined.

I'm really happy for the Cotton Bowl in all of this.  They should have been a BCS bowl to begin with.  I guess that you could potentially see the Champions Bowl and the Capital One Bowl instead of the Cotton, but after they moved it to Jerryworld, that just took the Cotton Bowl to a whole new level.

I'm surprised that with us pulling out of the Fiesta (at least I assume we are) and all of the corruption issues they've had that they'll still be a part of this.  I probably shouldn't be surprised, but I am.

Awesome points above about the Champions Bowl and Cotton Bowl being a part of the "new" BCS and how that further aligns the Big 12 and SEC.  If you presume the Sugar Bowl will want a Top 3 team in the SEC, that bumps the Capital One Bowl game down to the 4th or 5th best team in the SEC, which means, depending on the year, the 2nd or 3rd place team in the Big Ten will play a middle of the road SEC team.

Assuming that the Big Ten just sticks with the current arrangement in that bowl game, it just kind of dilutes a very important Big Ten bowl game.  It kind of elevates us and drops them down a peg a bit.

Am I the only one that thinks the Big12/SEC will just move their Fiesta/Sugar bowl relationships to the Cotton Bowl and there won't be an actual new bowl game?  I would think Jerry Jones could negotiate that some how so that the Big12/SEC don't have to actually run a bowl game.  Neither conference is in the business of putting on a bowl game.  It just seems way to easy to me for the Big12/SEC to say "Jerry came to us with a great proposal to take on all of the work of producing a bowl game while allowing our conference champions to meet in the greatest stadium ever built."  I'm sure the money Jerry could come up with would be close to what each conference would clear after paying to put on a separate bowl.  With the death of the BCS it looks like the TV contract is just for 2 bowls every year that are semifinals and that the other 4 bowls would be free to negotiate TV contracts for those years on their own. 
 
The whole champions bowl seemed like a posturing power play that was more about the relationship than it was about the actual game.  The way it sounds to me is that we no longer have a BCS, but rather a partnership of 6 six bowls to rotate as national semifinals.  The other 4 bowls every year will be able to do whatever they want.  I'm guessing they will come up with some sort of model with contingencies such as "in years that the Rose Bowl is a semifinal the Fiesta Bowl will use an at-large select the Pac-12 champion (or next best) team and the Sugar will use an at-large to select the Big-10 champion (or next best) team."  Same with the Cotton Bowl and the Big12/Fiesta and SEC/Sugar.
