The NIT version of the D1 playoff, if you will...The schools that are involved, and the gamblers would love it...probably not too many more will tune in. However, I have to think that any given "playoff" game with real consequences for NIT D1 teams would earn as much of a viewership as current low-end crap bowls, don't you think?Could be amazing. Here's the other thing that I was thinking about, Pete...Take away the 6-6 teams this year, and there were 56 teams in bowl games.Subtract the 16 teams from that pool that would have gone into a playoff, and you get 40 teams. 40 divided by two is twenty, therefore there would be 20 non-playoff bowl games. There are fifteen games in a sixteen team playoff. No matter how you slice it, this year, there would have been 35 post season games and 56 participants. TV's happy. Teams and coaches are happy. Everyone gets what they want, and they all get filthy rich. Also, another idea I had that was similar to yours...If you started the playoffs immediately after championship week, you could have three straight weeks of playoff games. Round 1, 2, and the "Final Four" would take place before Christmas. After that, you'd get two weeks before the neutral site championship game, which would be played around January 7th-ish, like it is now. In those two weeks between the semis and the championship game, while you wait for the big game, you can kill time and fill TV (especially New Years day) with 20 quality exhibition matchups during what was traditionally bowl week. The games would be more meaningless than ever, but as a fan, there's nothing worse than the two weeks leading up to the Super Bowl. At least everyone would be able to satisfy their football jones with bowl games while they wait for the National Title game.I mean, seriously, this needs to happen. Ungodly money would rain down on everyone. We'd get the best of both worlds. Everyone would still get to Pak somewhere warm during New Years. Pan, the only thing that would make it sweet for the playoff teams is guarantee pay based on what seed they are at.

Why would you guarantee pay based on pay rather than the number of games they play in?

The lower seed team would have a substantial investment to play the away game, seems like as in Bowl games there is a payout for both teams.

Better read up on him, he's spent the better part of the last 25 years as one of the most successful and powerful men in sports.

Man, if that is what he looks like on TV, just think what he looks like on Sat morning after a Friday night...
Agree with MIR. I don't if he would make a good commish, but in terms of sports tv, it would be like a young screenwriter looking up from their computer at 1 am and in the threshold of their doorway stood Martin Scorasee wanting a reading.

That's the only reason I can believe someone of his stature would do something like this.
$12.4m for both Mizzou and TAMU.
jesus christ we spend a shitload on officiating.
